TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your 30-day tourist visa exemption in Thailand, visit your local immigration office with the necessary documents, including copies of your passport data page, entry stamp, TM.6 departure card, and a passport-sized photo. Fill out the TM.7 extension application form and pay the fee of 1900 baht. It's advisable to prepare the copies and download the TM.7 form beforehand for convenience.

There was no reason to wait until your current 30 day visa exempt entry stamp was expiring before going to the immigration office for your 30 day extension because the ADD the extension on to your expiration date. You could have went weeks ago. :)

You are highly unlikely to have a problem with your 30 day extension (face it you're not the first foreigner in the country to get one ;) )

When you leave the country your current stamp (what ever it is) will cancel. When you apply for a 60 day tourist visa in Vientiane you'll get stamped in for 60 days when you enter the country.

Go to the local immigration office up there with copies of your data page of your passport, your current entry stamp, your TM.6 departure card, fill out a TM.7 application for extension, stick a passport sized photo on it, pay 1900baht and you should get a 30 day extension.

If you want to go prepared make the copies before you go and download the TM.7 application for extension from the Files section of the group, It's the form titled "FillableTM7form.pdf" (it's two pages, print it on one piece of paper front & back) :)

Good Luck (y)

thanks, joyce. i don't expect any issues. but, you just never know here in thailand. i remain prepared for disappointments. if not, then the day is good. if so, the day is still good. one time i went and they told me, unbeknownst to me, that i had to have another medical exemption or leave the country and come back. my expiration date was that day, so a hurried trip to ventiane, at 1pm, and it was taken care of that way. but, i was a little nervous. jb

I did it around three weeks ago. No problems at all. Brought the photo. They gave me the forms. They were so nice. Had a library of free books even!

thanks tod, will do. i expect no problems. but if i have to, have to, can always fly out and back. as you see, i am paranoid about everything, so want to have a backup plan, just in case. don't really care about the money, just the stamp. then, on to ventiane next time, for the setv. if i go early, say a few days or so, to ventiane, will they add to the date my visa expires or will it be 60 days from the day i leave my passport there? thanks again. do you ever sleep???
