Am I approaching the non-O visa application process correctly for retirement in Thailand after marrying a Thai partner?

ORIGINAL POSTER
I am getting married to my Thai partner in early July and wish to retire in Thailand. I have started to an application for a non o visa and I got extremely bogged down around the fourth page asking for things like proof of medical insurance and funds in a Thai bank account as well as a medical certificate and police clearance. Am I approaching this the right way. I am from Australia. I'm sure that this kind of question has been asked repeatedly however, any constructive information would be greatly appreciated. I intend to register our marriage and apply for a spousal visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster seeks clarification on the non-O visa application process for retirement in Thailand after marrying their Thai partner. They express confusion regarding requirements such as medical insurance, bank funds, and certificates. Comments suggest that they may have mistakenly selected a non-OA visa, which has more stringent requirements. Contributors recommend applying for a non-O visa instead, which is deemed simpler, especially when converting from a tourist visa. They advise gathering necessary financial documentation, like proving funds in a Thai bank account, and suggest getting health insurance beforehand. Also, the need to familiarize oneself with visa extension rules based on marriage or retirement is emphasized.

Its a process for sure. Don't get a marriage visa. NON O is much better although u need 800k..not 400k. Why to marry? There are no benefits to being married except for the woman.

I REALLY agree with Joe here. Been with a great girl for 13yrs but would never do the ”marriage” visa (unless under 50). Every year they give you more hurdles and requirements to prove you’re still together. Just do your own thing for the extra 400,000฿.

Every year you just get a bank statement, a photo and your TM7 form and you’re in and out of immigration in 30min!

You can get a non o, or just come on visa exemption and convert to non o here, easiest if using an agent, to do that.. Better to get non o, so you don't need an agent to help open a bank account

Then get an extension based on marriage or retirement.

Married extensions only need 400,000 baht in an account, but they need a lot more paperwork proving that you are still living together... Retirement extensions are easier.

The first extension must be for the same reason the Non-O was issued, you cannot choose between marriage and retirement

@Reinhard *******
There were many different rules during the lockdowns which have since been discontinued

@Richard *******
this is all a bit confusing but more importantly the OP is Australian not American so ssa and 401 references are completely irrelevant

I am doing exactly the same I have applied for a straight Non O visa. My situation might be different as need a CNI aswell as all the other bits. Fortunately I am financially stable enough to convert to Non OA or Marriage visa depending on time frame availability of appointments at embassy etc. But the way forward is straight Non O get the bank account open get the money into Thailand then look closely at the requirements for each category you wish to apply under for the 12 month leave of stay. The critical part is both require the money to be seasoned.

@Spencer ******
The retirement extention is easier.But there must be
*****
Thb income a months or 800k in a bankaccount for 2 months before the aplying.

@Spencer ******
what is meant by seasoned money
Spencer *******
@Jeffrey *******
for either extension applied for in country my belief is that your funds must have been in the account for 60 days I maybe wrong it might be 2 calander months

@Spencer ******
oh right, thanks Spencer

Your looking at the wrong visa check out the non-o not the OA visa
Reinhard ********
Do only the non Immigrant Visa from home .Then you Go to Thailand and open a bankaccount and deposit the 400k and apply for the extention at your Immigration office.You only need a traveller isurance for the 90 day Visa.This is the easiest way to get the extention.
Jon ********
Non OA is done when you are not in Thailand. If you are in Thailand get a Non O.
Brandon ************
@Jon *******
or non-O outside of Thailand as well.

thank you, I will give that one a try

Bogged down how? You seem to understand the questions. Just answer them.

Sounds like you selected a Non OA visa - which needs insurance a health check and police cert.

You want a Non O Visa.
