I will be moving to Thailand in August. I will be entering on a Non O Immigrant Visa. I intend on filing for a Marriage Visa with 30 days left on my entrance visa.

Looking for advice on a good Thai bank that will allow me to open an account in order to meet the Marriage Visa requirements. I will be living in the Pathum Thani area.

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around moving to Thailand on a Non O Immigrant Visa and the steps necessary to apply for a Marriage Visa. Key points include the misconception that one needs to file for a Marriage Visa upon arrival, when in fact, an extension is applied for instead. Recommendations for banks in the Pathum Thani area include Kasikorn Bank, Bangkok Bank, and SCB. There's advice about proving financial stability for the Marriage Visa by maintaining a certain balance (40,000 baht monthly income) in a bank account and the necessary bureaucratic steps involved in opening an account in Thailand.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

You only have to prove you have an income of

bht or more each month from you bank account by down loading 3months copies from said account.

I am just curious to know how you intend to request the extension with 30 days left on your non-O.

Thailand is very bureaucratic in each and every way and opening a bank account to deposit your money is already a challenge.

Easiest way: Book a hotel for three weeks or something. Ask the hotel for the TM30, then go to Immigration for a residence certificate for opening an account (not a permit). Finally go to a bank to open an account.

Expect this procedure to take anything between two days and two weeks.

Then deposit your money, find the place where you want to stay with your wife and start preparing for the visa extension.

During all that time two things are important:

1) Enjoy the time and enjoy what you’re doing. You’re in Thailand!

2) TIT! This Is Thailand. Everything works out differently than planned. Get used to it. Relax, stay calm and respectful. The people you’re dealing with can’t help it that their government didn’t give them sufficient training.

My wife and I have a home near Pathum Thani. I heard if you can show confirmation of SSA $$$$ from US that you only need 40K baht in your account. I have a letter from SSA that was certified by Thai embassy in NY along with certified marriage certificate also from Thai the same embassy. It shows that I exceed the necessary amount designate. Just wanted to verify this is correct

Bangkok bank was easy, but may get you with a health insurance at a grand or so ,hard to get just now ,try to get it first thing,as new rules about opening up one now ,you need to start doing the marriage first thing too 400,000 buats in account for 2months for visa extension ,you need an, afamation of freedom to marry, from your embassy, when you get out of the embassy you need to register it ,ministry of internal affairs, with a bit of luck, there might be someone outside the entrance looking to help you get it registered( it takes about
***
days to register it )for few hundred bauts, as I did ,in all you have a lot things to do, but in all, well worth it

The non-O IS the marriage visa so you're not filing for any marriage visa once you arrive.

You'll be applying for an extension (not a visa) based on marriage to a Thai citizen.

You will want to get a bank account with Kasikorn, Bangkok Bank or SCB. Those are the only 3 banks that can receive international transfers over 50,000 baht.
