Just went to re register in Patong and was told the house owner has to fill in the TM30. I said I've always done it myself for Phuket Town immigration and he said yes it's ok there.
So I went to Phuket Town immigration.
Had all the usual documents (owner ID card, Tambien Baan, Rental contract, letter of power of attorney) but now they want Chanote paperwork?!
Also won't let me use photocopies, they want originals.
My landlady isn't currently available to do this.
Their response was basically "you have to do it within 24hrs"
What's the likelihood of getting fined if
A) I do it late, or
B ) if I don't do it at all? (I might be leaving the country again before I can get in touch with my landlady).

Apparently her husband can do it. At one point they told me any Thai friend of mine can fill out the power of attorney. I was obviously confused by that as I said it has to be the owner of the house to sign it. And they said, no, anyone can do it and pretend it's her 🤦
Eventually I spoke to the nice guy who told me I need new documents (the Tambien Baan doesn't match the ID card) and to come back tomorrow and just go straight to see him, not the other guys. He says I don't need chanote. At least he's trying to help!
I think it's going to take someone down there filing a complaint with first the police station and then the administrative court (which are both things a foreigner can do if they feel they are being treated unfairly) before anything will change as far as their draconian procedures to file a TM.30 on the owners behalf.
