Question about extension of stay on ED visa:

My extension of stay (on an ED visa) is done every 3 months. What should I do if I plan to be outside of Thailand and it conflicts with the date for applying for an extension of stay?

I believe the extension can be done 30 days in advance of the expiration of the current extension. Should I absolutely plan to be in Thailand during the time of the extension (30 days or less before the application for extension)? If am not in Thailand during the period for extension, does the automatically invalidate the visa and any possibility for extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you need to leave Thailand and are unable to apply for your ED visa extension on time, you must cancel your current extension before departure with a letter from your school. The ED visa is meant for study in Thailand and typically requires you to apply for the extension within the last 30-45 days of your current stay. If you leave without properly managing your extension, you could risk overstaying, requiring you to start the visa process over upon your return. It is advisable to discuss your plans with your school and obtain necessary documentation to avoid complications.

If you have to leave Thailand and are not able to apply on time for a new Extension of Stay during your absence, you have to cancel your current Extension of Stay with a letter from your school before leaving Thailand and on return start the whole process again.

The purpose of the ED visa is to study in Thailand. Not to be away from Thailand, but said that: You can apply with document of the school In Bangkok, Phuket and Chang Mai during the last 45 days of your stay. Most other Immigration Offices during your last 30 days. If you wish to leave Thailand during this Extension of Stay you will need a re-entry permit. Best is to inform your school and get a letter that it is allowed to be away for longer periods to avoid problems with future applications of Extension of Stay.

If you missed the application of new extension within the period, you would not be no longer any extension or entry from visa. You might be even on overstay. Then You need to do whole process from scratch all over again if you want to be on same status.

What does your school say about your plan to be away from Thailand? You are on an Ed Visa. Are you in University with college semester break?
