I was looking at the Thai embassy in Washington DC web site and was curious about the “O” visa being married to aThai info. It appears that with that visa you can only stay in country for 90 days even if it is good for 1 year. A visa run every 90 days? Is that what you have to do? That would push me to the “O-A” over 50 just so I would not have to do a visa run every 90days. What a hassle.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-Immigrant O visa allows a maximum stay of 90 days per entry, even though it is valid for one year. This means holders must do a visa run to renew their stay every 90 days. In contrast, the Non-Immigrant O-A visa offers a longer stay of one year per entry without the need for frequent visa runs, although registration with immigration is required if staying longer than 90 days.

Im also sure you can extend that 90 days at immigration and get an extra 60 days, then do a border run, come back and get 90 days then extend again at immigration.

Ahh, yes. Different rules for different offices. I forgot about that. Its a shame immigration offices cant all follow or do the same thing.

that is totally up to the immigration office you use. :/

Some offices allow a 60 day "visit family" extension once per visa and some allow it once per entry. BIG difference.

Spend the extra money (if you are trying to decide) and get the 1 Year. I am speaking from experience. It would have saved me a lot of money if I would have done that.

With the Non Immigrant O-A (long stay) visa, which is also multiple entry and valid for 1 year, you get 1 year of stay on each entry. If you stay more than 90 days inside Thailand, you have to report this to your local Immigration office.

The multiple entry Non Immigrant O visa is valid for 1 year and give you indeed a maximum stay of 90 days. Than you do a border run to activate a new 90 days of stay.

Correct. :)
