Why was my Non-Immigrant O visa only issued for 90 days instead of a year?

Good morning. I recently applied for a Non-Immigrant O visa online based on married to a thai citizen. I got my visa approved yesterday by the consulate in Munich, Germany. However, the length of stay is only 90 days. I thought it would be a year. During the application process there was no information about the length of stay, just “more than 60 days”. What am I missing? I wanted a year of course.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-Immigrant O visa issued based on marriage to a Thai national allows a stay of 90 days upon entry. This is standard for all categories of Non-Immigrant visas, with the possibility to apply for a 1-year extension once in Thailand, contingent on meeting certain financial requirements. Applicants can pursue a multiple-entry visa for more flexibility but must adhere to the same 90-day rule per entry.

You might consider the Multiple Entry Non O Married to Thai National one year visa acquired at the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet, Laos

Minimum paperwork requirements

No income requirements

You get it extended in Thailand to 1 year provided you satisfy the financial requirements.

When you are in Thailand, suggest you visit your local Thai Immigration office WITH YOUR THAI WIFE and ask for their list of requirements for the One year extension of stay as Married to Thai. These are the common found requirements for the visa

The 90 day Non-O visa can be extended for 12 months inside Thailand as many times as you want. You just need to meet the requirements. Once you are here and settled in I'd highly recommend a trip to your local immigration office to get a list of their requirements for the extension. The one thing that's common across immigration offices are financial requirements, you'll either need to get an income affidavit from your embassy if they issue them or transfer 400k baht into a Thai bank account in your name 2 months before applying for the 12 months extension.

what would keep me from just making another non-o every year? then i wouldn’t need to park my money

because your Non-O is only good for 90 days, if that's all you need time wise inside Thailand then you don't need an extension. If you want to stay longer than 90 days you need an extension. If your embassy issues an income affidavit (I don't know your passport country) then you can use this method to avoid parking money in a Thai bank, it's issued based on income in your home country.

, then, you need to do 90 days border-bounce. Actually, many people have multiple entry Non-O for that reason and keep traveling / border-bouncing.

There is no Non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai national which gives you more than 90 days on entry. If you want 1-year consecutive stay, you need to apply for 1-year extension in Thailand.

All Non-immigrant visa (without A or X) gives you 90 days per entry. A single-entry visa is valid for 1-time entry only during its three-month validity. A multiple entry visa is valid for unlimit entry during its 1-year validity, but every entry is 90 days, then you need to do a border bounce.

You may have missed checking the detailed info from Munich Embassy. It clearly states 90 days as the length of stay in the kingdom, for both single and multiple entry visas.
