TLDR : Answer Summary
When planning to bring a three-month supply of non-narcotic prescription medication into Thailand, it's generally advised to carry a letter from your doctor confirming the prescriptions. While many expats report having successfully brought in their medications without issue, it's important to ensure that the medications are in their original labeled containers. Some users suggest that a legitimate medical need for the medication typically mitigates concerns regarding quantity. It's also noted that many medications are available over-the-counter in Thailand, making it worthwhile to check local pharmacy prices before traveling.

The official rule below….however, the same as others, I have brought in 12 months at a time and never been stopped.

I normally bring back six months supply at a time and just make copies of the prescriptions. Never had a problem, although I’ve not been challenged by Immigration yet. So I can’t comment on what the outcome could be

when I moved here (before I knew that you could buy MOST scripts over the counter at any pharmacy by just walking in) I brought a YEAR supply of my meds with a letter from my doc saying I was prescribed them. Had NO problem getting in.

Some medicines are cheaper in thailand,, BUT,, some are much more expensive, so if you have a contact get them to check the price for you first.

The purpose of the laws regarding the maximum quantity of medication you can bring is, is to prevent/restrict people from bringing in stuff to resell here. If you have a legitimate need for the medicine and for a 3 month supply you won't have any issues.

If you're 18 years old and bringing in 5 years worth of medication, you'd probably have to spend some time there.

IF the drug is not over the counter, get a doctors letter before coming to be safe. You can check if the drug is over the counter or not at

(MOST drugs ARE sold over the counter here)

If it's prescription medication just get a letter from your doctor confirming it's yours. In the extremely unlikely event your incoming baggage is searched, it's a safeguard.

Quite so. I bring whatever I can to Thailand bc as a pensioner in Aus Stations cost $6 or so per month whereas in Thailand I'm up for $30 or so. Even low dose aspirin costs more in Thailand.

because Thailand doesn't have lots of meds you can get in the west... Many... And they aren't much cheaper... And if you can't find them in thai, you're screwed

no idea but it's not a good idea here. Things can get very nasty for the slightest trace of prohibited drugs. If you have a prescription you should be ok but check with the Thai embassy or Thai customs before. Not sure on things like that but better safe than locked up.

So then I wouldn't say it's a dumb thing to do. He has a prescription. The law says you can bring in 30 days worth of medication, he wants to bring in 90 days worth. It's just like the 1L of alcohol. If you bring more in, you can either pay a tax on the excess or they confiscate it, really not a big deal.

I did say check with embassy or customs for allowances. Dumb to bring in prohibited products like I said.

except you’ve no idea of what he wants to bring in is prohibited or not …

I have taken my meds from Thailand to the UK and from the UK to Thailand a dozen or more times and never ever had a problem.

Stop being such a worry-wort when you don’t even know what the meds are. 🙄

it’s quite clear what they are: non narcotic prescription meds. Can’t see those being anywhere near ’prohibited’, can you?
