Hi all, I’m travelling to Thailand in December and a friend of mine who lives there has asked me to take some prescribed medication for him (heart meds and indigestion meds) my question, is it legal for me to take into Thailand? Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The legality of bringing prescribed medication for someone else into Thailand is questionable. While some travelers have successfully brought their own medications with a copy of the prescription, risks apply when carrying medications that do not belong to you. In many countries, holding prescriptions not in your name can lead to legal issues. It's advisable to consult Thai regulations and possibly consider having the friend purchase medications locally, as they are often more affordable in Thailand.

He should buy them in Thailand. He probably doesn't even need a prescription ans cheaper.

Get a copy of prescription, declare the medicine on your arrival form so they can inspect it and if they take it, they take it.

When we moved to Thailand, we took blood pressure tablets, and five different scrips for heart attack meds

We had a letter from the doctor. I also took digestive enzymes and protein powders.

I also took diabetes medication

From Australia into Singapore Singapore to Bangkok

No issues

Hey, anyone travelling soon to Thailand? I just need someone to take two bags of protein powder for me. I'll pick them up when I fly in the next day. I'll buy a Chang for anyone who can help. TIA 😆

Just make sure you have the prescription. But in general, particularly in the US, it's a felony (read jail) to carry drugs that you are not named for on the script. Best not to chance it...

My question to you is why would you carry meds that don't belong to you ? I like to travel hassle free and no drama .

it is called being a good friend. Maybe the concept of helping others is foreign to you? I would definitely help out a friend by bringing him 3 months worth of his or her prescription medicine.

Another concept on help forums like this is that people ask questions and then others answer them. Replying with another question is not helpful.

Can you bring pills in for me as well? They all blood pressure pills 😜. I smashed them up and they are in blocks of kilos. Do you have room for 10 kilos?

All jokes aside don’t bring in medication for someone else. Terrible idea and don’t want to see a movie about you in a Thai prison.

I buy all my drugs in Thailand and take back to Australia, far cheaper. It does pay to shop around though as prices are hugely inflated in some areas. Last time I used a online pharma company and had my needs delivered to my hotel at a good discount.

Amazing how many commenters are not acknowledging the request to carry someone else's prescription. He is not asking about carrying his own.

Bringing RX in someone else’s name might be a big problem. Not worth the risk.

Most likely no issue, never really get checked flying in. You can post them as an alternative option, done it a few times from Australia without issue.

I bring them in myself all the time, bring a copy of the prescription though. Also check online make sure none are illegal here. I have never been questioned at the airport.

1. Meds are cheap & over-the-counter here.

2. Not legal to have RX's in your possession in some else's name, in any country.

3. I'm sure there are legal ways to do it that involve powers of attorney, etc., but WHY?

As he is over 60 years old all his meds are free as he is a UK citizen. He will only be in Thailand for another 3 months and it’s 3 months supply I am taking. That’s why. 😊

Yes, when the quantity is to high you need to take the prescription (copy) from a doctor. Put it in the suitcase and no problems as long as it isn’t anything with morphine….never had a problem and I take with me for one year ..
