Greetings! My Son is visiting Phuket for Muay Thai training for two months. He is prescribed Xanax for anxiety. Would he be okay going through customs with that medication? I did not see it on a prohibited list. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When traveling to Thailand with prescribed medications like Xanax, it's advisable to take a doctor's letter confirming the prescription. While Xanax may not be explicitly prohibited, officials have the discretion to question its legality. A general guideline suggests bringing no more than a 30-day supply. A doctor's note can help avoid any complications during customs inspection.
. Happy to hear that your son has been accepted into the training academy 👍
I would advise you to get a letter from your GP confirming that he is on the medication 💊 he carries.
I always get one of those letters before I travel to Thailand . 🇹🇭I have never been questioned but it would be a real shame if your son was denied entry because of such a trivial thing.
It will be up to to the Immigration Officer 👮processing your son’s visa and of course customs, if they find drugs - albeit legitimate - to potentially take action.
My recommendation, please get a letter of confirmation from your GP.
Hope this helps 😃

Has he been to Thailand before for extended periods? If he has mental health issues it’s probably not the right place

I have been stopped at Heathrow but no problem just checking illegal drugs

Take a doctors letter just incase they ask. Unlikely they will but take a letter and genuine package.

Thank you. Yes, it is in the bottle from the pharmacy with his and the Doctor's name on it.
again never been asked but they can ask for proof of 20,000baht or equivalent in your own currency. I always have at least 1000aud on me. Cards get lower rate and $9 fee every time withdraw cash.
