I’m marrying my Thai fiancé in 6 weeks then will move to Thailand in April.
I’m trying to get ready so wish to open a Thai bank account when I’m over for my wedding. Can I do this with my passport showing the 60 day tourist visa? We have been told by our agent that I need to get a different visa from the Thai embassy in London before traveling but I think this was when the tourist visas were only for 30 days. As they are now 60 days, can I open a bank account ? It will make life easier for me knowing I don’t have to apply now for a different visa as I’m leaving it late ! Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is preparing to marry a Thai citizen and move to Thailand but wants to know if they can open a Thai bank account with a 60-day tourist visa. The discussion reveals that while it's technically possible to open a bank account on a tourist visa, it may be difficult and is generally not recommended. Several commenters suggest obtaining a long-term visa like the Non-O (retirement) or a spousal visa for a more straightforward process. They also advise being prepared with necessary documentation and possibly consulting an agent for assistance. Overall, securing a long-term visa before trying to open a bank account in Thailand would be the best approach.

You can generally not open a bank account on a tourist visa. You need a long term visa for that. Your agent is right, get the marriage visa from London before going in April. You can marry in 6 weeks on a tourist visa or on exemption, that's no issue.
its hard and impossible with Visa Exempt. Suggedt you go to Pattaya and get an agent from ฿3500. Or go to your standalone branch where your living and ask for the list of requirements. Take your Fiancee with you. Suggest Bangkok bank
You have to be extremely lucky to get a bankaccount on a touristvisa / visa excempt

If you where a foreigner coming to your homecountry, how hard would it be for the foreigner to open an account there ? Propably it it be almost the same.
It's possible to get a bank account without a long stay Visa but not easy. The Visa you could get to make it easier is a Non-O (retirement) but you have to be 50+.
