I want my girlfriend to come to England for a month or so from Thailand. I know I can invite her but what does she need to provide or have proof of and what finances do I need to provide to assure that things go smoothly? It's the time frame?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To invite your girlfriend from Thailand to the UK for a month, she will need to apply for a visitor visa and provide several documents, including an invitation letter from you, proof of your financial support, details of where she will stay, and evidence of her intention to return to Thailand, such as a job letter or family ties. You also may be required to show your income and accommodation details. It's advisable to thoroughly research UK visa requirements on the official UK government website or consider using a visa agent to assist with the process.

We did it with an agent, but we were married as well.

Something else to be aware of. Even though the visa has a 6 month validity period it doesn't automatically mean she can stay 6 months. For example. If you put in your application you want her to visit for 4 weeks, she should only stay 4 weeks within the 6 month validity period. If you change your mind for a longer stay after she's arrived I would advise you to inform UKBA. There is no guarantee a longer stay would be granted.

I managed to get a UK visitor visa for my then girlfriend twice before we married and successfully applied for a spouse visa for her to come to the UK. At the time she was not working although she had previously worked on cruise ships. If you will be fully sponsoring your gf it is not actually essential for her to have a job but it does help prove her intention to return to Thailand. If your gf does not have a job focus more on her family ties or any family dependents or property she may own in Thailand. There is guidance on the UK govt visa web site so follow that. You will have to prove your relationship. The best thing to do will be to start an application on line and work your way through it step by step. You will be able to save it and go back to it and add to it or edit it as many times as you like before you submit it. You would find more guidance and advice in a UK visa group. Do not hit submit until you have checked and double checked the application is complete. Remember she is the applicant. You would be the sponsor. As sponsor you are allowed to help with the application.

I second Bob's answer. Key are prove your relationship is genuine, and show ties to Thailand that'll demonstrate her intention to return. Include anything you can think of, there's no penalty for too many pages. Bear in mind the people judging your application are very rushed - they have minutes to decide each application, which often requires digesting hundreds of pages - so make everything super easy to navigate with page numbers etc. I include cover notes from applicant and sponsor, tell the stories about yourselves that demonstrate those two big things - genuine relationship and her intention to return, such as relationship history, plans for future, etc. Take your time, review and review again you've ticked every box in their lists and instructions.

You will have to provide proof of where you will be staying and for how long in each place.

Me and my wife went to UK for a month in 16 for the wedding of my daughter, we stayed with a friend in London, then a hotel in Norwich and then on to Scotland.

I got a letter and passport copy from the 2 friends I stayed with and included a copy of the hotel reservation and a copy of the wedding invitation.

Be familiar with the details on the visa application. When we arrived at Heathrow I went though the non Brit channel with my wife. The IO was very friendly and chatty, but with a purpose. He was asking in a conversational way about info we have on the application. We hadn't BS about anything, so it wasn't a problem. I presume he was looking to see how I answered his questions

My Mrs and our Daughter came to the uk early this year I used an Agent this time being there first time but at the end of the day lads it's only an Application form we've got to fill in .My agent told my Mrs and myself is not to tell lies anywhere during the process and you can't possibly go wrong. My Mrs didn't have a job her only job was being a full-time mother to our Daughter they were happy with that and awarded her the visa there seems to be some agents need more information than others but there probably the ones which demand the most money. Good luck ...

Used an agency in Koh Samui...I sent my documents to them.

Partner had to travel to Bangkok though to personally hand in the paperwork which I didn't realise she had to do , but her and her girlfriend were happy to go on the trip,

She got her visa in 24 hours.

Australia.

When I did it. She had a letter from her employer stating she was granted 3 weeks from work with the start and ending dates of her 3 weeks holiday. This was to make sure she came back to Thailand to work. It was granted just because of the letter from her employer. It only took 10 days. But that in 2020.

If you want it to run smooth get an agent to do for you. Did this in the summer. 6 months visa. It’s not easy if you have never done before. Now living in udon. Biggest things are proof of support, length of relationship, proof that she has good reason to return to Thailand.

It's a bit of a ball ache but very possible. Have a look on the .gov website.

In your letter stating you'll support here, be quite explicit in detail. For my girlfriend's visit, we stated exactly how much money we estimate she would be sponsored with, even by saying how much money each day she would be given. We said £100 a day. It's just worth saying it, even though we didn't spend close to that each day. Use extensive evidence of relationship, my girlfriend and I had nearly 2 years of photographs together that helped. State why you want her to come. In her letter, state why she wants to come. In our case, it was to meet my family and go to my best friend wedding, as well as see London.

You'll have to include a lot of your financial details if you're going to be sponsoring her.

Theres a whole lot more and it is a ball ache, but we did it. And she doesn't have a job "on paper" just a small online business she runs through her Facebook and Instagram selling handmade doll accessories.

Good luck!

I’ve done it four times so far and never had too much of a problem. The first time was probably the worse because I had to show I could support her financially. On subsequent applications I’ve just included a letter confirming I would be supporting her during her stay and that my house would be her base, so no hotel bills to pay. The one thing that probably helped more than anything was the fact she had a good job and also a letter from her employer confirming he employment position and consent for her to take leave. We never used an agent, just double checked on all paperwork prior to submitting to UK immigration. If your gf hasn’t a job you may find it more difficult, good luck.

The most important requirement is that she can show a genuine reason to return to Thailand after the visit, like a job. You, as her sponsor, need to show you have suitable accommodation and finances to pay for the trip and her expenses while in the UK.

I did this last year. And was successful. Piles of evidence of relationship and how long.you need to declare all your finances. And how you going to support her. Photos of where she will be staying, what she is going to do when here in uk. Be prepared to fly to BKK . She will need to hand in all the paperwork. Biometric scan. Plus finger prints.and hand in her passport,

The thing that clinches it. Is she has a job. And evidence from her employer giving her leave. ( letter)

If successful. You wont know until she get here passport returned.( special delivery) has to be signed for. It took nearly a month. You wont find out until she opens the passport and hopefully stamped up. We spent hours and hours preparing for the application. We used an agent. To double double check everything before we handed it in. They were very good. Was not cheap. Hope this helps. Its getting more and more difficult. Not many succeed. We had 6 months. But unfortunately her company wanted her back in 45 days.

I went thru the process a number of years ago for a Thai gal wanting to go to US to visit Anerican bf

All info was on internet. But at the time they were very reluctant if she didn't have property here, or had a ' spotty ' work history.

The short story is ( I believe) the mood of the interviewing agent, as the last step.

Agree with much if what you have to say, but I'd just like to add my girlfriend got her visa without having a job "on paper". She has a small online business selling hand made stuff on Instagram, and she used screenshots to evidence that as well as mentioned her customer base is almost exclusively South East Asia. And that was enough regarding her work! Which I was very nervous about. Because it isn't a job on paper. Just a thing she does.

this is all great advice and really useful. In short it’s a bit of a pain in the arse to fulfill the visa requirements (especially the requirements the UK govt don’t tell you about) if it’s your first time I would use a visa agent. It will take some time and effort. The good news is once you’ve done it once it’s much easier the following times and you can do it yourself
