I'm heading to the UK for 2 weeks with my Thai girlfriend for my cousin's wedding, so she'll need a visitors visa, can I do it from here or do I need to go through the UKGOV site? $152 WTF isn't that a bit steep for a visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on how to help his Thai girlfriend apply for a UK visitor visa for a wedding, expressing concerns about the application process, the associated costs, and whether they can apply from Thailand or through the UK government website. Comments indicate that applications must be made through the UK government website, accompanied by biometrics via VFS Global. Important documentation such as proof of ties to Thailand, financial stability, and possibly using an agent for assistance is discussed.

no land or I'd be living with her instead other way round,she has kids but ones 20 and ones 18 so hardly bairns. But the fact we're only going for 12 days for a wedding, we have return flights and our apartment and life is here with all our belongings, it seems silly to me as I've travelled around the world for years and never encountered this amount of scrutiny. It's annoying

If your girl friend has a job and can get a letter from her employer and maybe payslips it will make it a lot easier.

,I am guessing but if you can show bank statements showing a good balance you would probably be fine I am pretty sure I gave bank statements as well,my ex girlfriend worked for a large corporation and was on a good salary, just give them as much reason as possible for her to return to Thailand.

any suggestions on what to put on the visa then? Retired or self employed maybe. Surely there's got to be a million Thai women staying with foreigners that don't work, and they're the ones most likely to travel to their partners home country for a visit. It makes no sense to make it more difficult for them as opposed to people without partners.🤔

you may find that a stumbling block not working, good luck

I took a Thai girlfriend to UK a few years ago it wasn't easy got rejected first attempt, she will need to have a good reason to return to Thailand also money in her bank account i think it was about 20,000 baht but can't be sure and you will need to start putting it in now our first rejection was a lump sum a few weeks before we wanted the visa ,also your best bet is to sponsor her as in pay for air fare and support her while in uk ,its certainly do able just a pain ,good luck.

return flights for both of us are booked they have been for months. As for supporting her we'll only be in the UK 12 days before we return so it shouldn't be an issue.

He cant do it all. She has to apply in person
Stephen ********
@Steve ******
he can do it all for her. Maybe easier with it being in English 🤷‍♂️
Tony *********
Make sure she has good ties back in Thailand otherwise you got no chance in getting visa
Wietze *********
@Tony ********
you are right
Graham ******
The Gov website to register and upload documents then use VFS Global for the biometrics and issuance of the Visa, that's how it's done.
