Did someone already get more insights about the new permanent residency requirement?
Is it really meant for an indefinite time period or for non-temporary residency purposes?
I keep getting mixed signals about it from different embassies or people.
For my situation, I have been living in the Netherlands for 6 years; my job is an indefinite contract, but my residency permit is defined period and renewable every 5 years. I even have the right to vote for municipality elections (after living 5 years in the country). My life is basically here. I don't have a penny, an asset, a residence, or anything in my passport country besides some family members.
My passport country also don't have a Thai embassy. The embassy I can apply to has a note saying that applications from people who are without residency or currently not living in the countries within the embassy jurisdiction ate rejected. Well I'm neither residential nor living in my passport country 😅
Going back to my passport country to apply with all the documentation from the Netherlands seems a bit counter intuitive. I'm also thinking about the bureaucracy and issues with foreign embassies not recognizing how things work in different countries. For instance, there are digital (and fully licensed) banks here in the Netherlands (my account is in one), I will essentially be doomed if the foreign embassy (outside of the Netherlands) requires stamps or hand signatures on bank statements. Digital banks have no such thing (and it is totally normal in the Netherlands). Or maybe problems with the flight itinerary not originating from my passport country, documents language, no address in my passport country, etc. the amount of problems and uncertainty this can create is a lot.
(I plan to apply for workation as a remote worker with my current company)
