What are the requirements for applying for a Thai marriage visa?

Hi. I want to apply for the Thai marriage visa. I’m already married to a Thai citizen and I’m getting all the paperwork, money in bank together etc.

Today I was told that I need to get the Thai marriage certificate translated into English, notarised by the British embassy and verified by the Thai Ministry of foreign affairs.

Is this correct? (Seems bizarre as I got married in Thailand and the marriage certificate is in Thai but wouldn’t surprise me.) thanks 🙏

If you are married, you already have the marriage certificate translated and certified into Thai, so you do not need to do it again. I'm married and on the marriage extension so I speak from experience.

Are you applying for the visa while you are in Thailand or in your home country? If all paperwork if in Thai then why not apply when you are in Thailand? Go in on a 90 day visa and convert it.

Thanks Chris, look like I’m going to have to do it at some point but was hoping it wasn’t needed for the visa switch over. Will go to the immigration office with my wife next week and see what they say.

Surely that would be for a UK visa? Never had to translate a Thai marriage cert for a Thai visa.

It's up to the Thai Embassy you're applying at, but in most places if you're married under Thai law (and thus have a Thai marriage certificate) then there's no need to translate/legalize. But check with the Embassy you're applying with to be 100% sure

from what I’ve seen and heard I don’t think I need it. I think the person that told me is confused between the marriage certificate and the affirmation of marriage that you have to get before you are married. Thanks again 👍

Ah ok, thought you were talking about applying from outside Thailand.

In the case of changing visa type, this is the info from Immigration's website
