TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the best approach to applying for a marriage visa in Thailand. Key points include whether to apply in your home country or in Thailand, the necessity of translated documents and proof of funds in a Thai bank account, and the differences between a year-long Non-Immigrant Type O visa and a single-entry Non-O visa. It is recommended to check specific consulate requirements as they vary by location.

Transfer codes show the money from overseas.

Could you bring cash and a stamped letter from your bank saying the money come from there a a bank statement showing it to

there is no requirement that the money originate from overseas to get a yearly extension of stay at the immigration office

@Ri***
, you also need to decide IF you want to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage <- where you border bounce every 90 days to get another 90 day stamp for the whole year

OR

If you want to get a 90 day single entry Non-O visa and then apply for a yearly extension of stay based on marriage at the local immigration office <- where you can stay in the country for a whole year if you want to.

Read the topic I posted called The difference between a "marriage visa" and a "yearly extension of stay based on marriage" . That explains the two things which are both called a 'marriage visa'.

I have done mine there quite a few times and have never been asked for translated docs. My Thai docs in Thai and english supporting docs in english both accepted. My wife even does her support/confirmation letter in thai.

If you're here now, you can just go to the Thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao and get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa from them with no proof of funds and minimal documentation. The visa is 5000baht

Cheer for the advice . I check the website for Australia and it list the documents required but didn’t state where document had to be English Or thai or both . I’m looking at doing in Perth . Next month when I go back there

@Ri***
, you're confusing a couple things.

IF you're getting a Non-Immigrant Type O visa from a thai consulate in another country BEFORE you come here you don't need the money in a thai bank account. In fact some consulates don't even have financial requirements. Others have it but you can use a bank account from your country to meet it.

It's only when you're getting a Non-O visa or yearly extension of stay inside the country using the banked money method that the funds have to be in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply.

Based on marriage - Perth did not require translated docs but each application is done on a case by case basis with possible additional documentation required. Go to the website of the consulate (as Tod mentioned) and they will have a checklist incuded on the application form. I found Perth very accomodating

You need to contact the consulate you'd be using in Australia and see what their requirements are.

Just wanted to let people know;

I just had someone come in on a 30 day visa exempt stamp. He wanted to get a single entry 90 day Non-Immigrant Type-O visa INSIDE the country, based on marriage to a thai, with the intention of applying for a yearly extension of stay after that.

Just so you know, to apply for a Non-O inside the country at Chaengwattana (be it for being over 50, being married to a thai, or supporting children here) you have to have FIFTEEN days remaining on your current permission to stay stamp, because Non-O's issued inside the country go under consideration for two weeks.

He filled out form TM.87 (application for visa) and provided;

*copies from his passport of of his data page, his current permission to stay stamp, departure card

*a copy of the affirmation of freedom to marry from his embassy AND a copy of the certified translation with the MFA stamp on it

*a copy of the Kor Ror 2 & 3 marriage documents from the Amphur, his thai wife's I/D & a certified copy of her house book

*bank letter dated the day he apply stating the applicant has 400K banked ( at this stage though there is no seasoning required)

*copies of all the pages of his bank book updated on the date he applied and the last page showing the transfer codes to prove the money originated from overseas <-(a prerequisite for applying for a Non-0 inside the country)

*copy of the lease agreement <- he wouldn't have needed this IF his thai wife's house book was from Bangkok, but hers was from Pathum Thani so she needed to prove she lived in Bangkok

*4 pictures of them in front of their address numbers, getting married, etc.

The above stuff, 2000baht and 10 minutes later he walked out with a receipt saying come back in two weeks for the results. FWIW: I've NEVER seen them, accept an application, take your money, have it go "under consideration" and then be denied.

When he goes back in two weeks they'll stamp the single entry 90 day Non-O visa into his passport, stamp USED on it and give him a new 90 day permission to stay until stamp. Once that has 45 days or less he can go back out and apply for the yearly extension of stay.

Anyway, just wanted to let people know you can most definitely get a single entry 90 day Non-Immigrant Type-O visa inside the country at Chaengwattana in section C-1.

Tod Daniels posted that some time ago so it must be true.
