TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks guidance on applying for a marriage visa for her English husband after their marriage in England. Key advice from the community includes: registering their UK marriage in Thailand for a Kor Ror 22 certificate, the necessity of translating their marriage certificate to Thai and obtaining Ministry of Foreign Affairs certification. Options for the visa type include applying for a Non-Immigrant Type O visa or a yearly extension based on the marriage, with recommendations against relying too heavily on visa agents for assistance.

Okay, I just found some interesting things out.

Because you were married in the UK and the UK consulate here does NOT certify marriage documents any more you need to send the original marriage certificate to someone in the UK have them take it to the FCO office, have it stamped, then it needs to be taken to the thai embassy in London, they translate and certify that its accurate then it needs to come back here so you can use it to show you're married.

From what I can glean and have been told you cannot use that marriage certificate at an immigration office for an extension of stay without doing those steps.

This is what I had to do last month Todd.

If you have family or friends in the UK, then it's quite an easy process if u send your paperwork via them.

Turn around time at the fo and also the Thai embassy was very fast.

, something you might do is stop by your local amphur and see what you need to do to get your marriage from overseas registered here in thailand.

When people get married here they get two marriage certificates called a Kor Ror 2 and a Kor Ror 3 (คร.๒ คร.๓) BUT when a thai is married abroad and registers the marriage here in thailand they get a Kor Ror 22 (คร.๒๒).

Unless I'm mistaken once you have the marriage registered at your Amphur you don't need to show the translations and certification from the MFA anymore.

The down side is in order to register the marriage at the Amphur you need to get the marriage documents translated into thai and certified by the MFA anyway :/

There are several ways to go about getting what's referred to as a "marriage visa".

1 - your husband goes to the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao with the marriage documents, your thai i/d card, and your house book listing. He can get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage to a thai without showing any financial requirements. On that visa he would have to exit and re-enter the country every 90 days for the entire year

OR

2 - your husband banks 400K baht in a bank account in his name only for 2 months, or gets a notarized affidavit of income from abroad from his consulate here stating he gets 40K baht a month in income. At the immigration office he applies for first a 90 day Non-O visa and then 2 months later a year extension based on marriage. It requires quite a bit of documentation but is not all that difficult to do. With a yearly extension he doesn't leave the country every 90 days, instead he reports to the immigration office.

Those are the two choices.

Very good advice
@Sak***
, (y) เห็นด้วย 100% :) There is no need to use an agency.
@Y**
, if you stop out at your immigration office and ask for a hand out they will provide a sheet that lists all the documents stuff you need to get the yearly extension of stay based on marriage. Remember they go under consideration for 30 days once you apply before you go back and get the year extension inked in..

Ministry of foreign affairs have to stamp it.

just be careful using an agent.

Once you use an agent to get you a yearly extension you're gonna have a hard time doing it yourself after that :( The immigration officers will know you used an agent before and will still want their cut :O

I recently got my Non O visa based on Marriage from London. Was very simple, proof of funds (I think it was 1400 GBP per month for 3 months), a copy of your marriage certificate (original needs to be seen too) and the visa fee, application and photos. Was very easy.

We were married in Thailand and we had our certificate translated anyway, so I am not sure about the translation requirements tho.

Start at the Embassy of Consulate where you live and apply for a Non Immigrant O Visa based on marriage with a Thai National.
