Hello everyone 🫶 I am about to shift my whole life. So my plan is to apply for the 5 year Visa for remote workers.

I need to start from zero because I just start to work remote next months and like to prepare everything. I would be happy if you can help me with some of this questions:

How long do I need to wait?

Is 2-3 months of working remote enough?

And how much income do I need to have?

And what kind of documents do I need to show as a proof?

Can you recommend an ageny.

Maybe especially for german citizens?

And what kind of proof do I need to show as a proof?

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Sara is planning to apply for a 5-year visa for remote workers in Thailand and has several questions regarding the application process. She asks about the required waiting period after starting remote work, the minimum income needed, necessary documentation for proof, agency recommendations, and specific inquiries related to her status as a German citizen. Community members provide insights on the nuances of applying through the Berlin embassy, emphasizing the importance of having sufficient funds (around 500,000 THB), appropriate employment documentation, and savings evidence. They also encourage Sara to conduct her research and share personal experiences to clarify her doubts.

Wow, at least do a little research for yourself on the subject. It's all online and fairly easy to read and understand. Then when you have a question, then ask.

That answer is not really helpfull as I already did the research and that are the question that came out. I asked that questions because I wanted to ask for personal experience.

Company registration, contracts of empoyment, Company portfolio, website etc. 500k Baht equivalent for at least 3 months (depending on Thai Embassy requirements).

That introduction suggests a lot of questions. 🤦🏽‍♂️

You will start to work - it means that you have a job. What is your job? "Remote work" is no job. 🤷🏽‍♂️

How long wait for what? 🤔

Need how much money to do what? 🤔

Work a few months - and then? 🤔

🤦🏽‍♂️

Jochen Recht ah and the question was how much I need to earn out of my remote job to get accepted and how long I need to wait to apply after starting to work remote. I think its not possible to start working as a freelancer and apply immediately.

Sara Haack OK. Understood. Thanks for explaining. Since I'm on a different type of visa I never did any research regarding DTV.

Jochen Recht thank you for your answer. Right now I am employed but not allowed to work remote. My plan is to work remote as a freelancer as a virtual assistance for insurance offices. Same what I do now just for different companys and as a freelancer. My question is how long I need to work as a remote freelancer until I can start to apply. 1 months 2 momths 3 months. Thats what I would love to know.

Thank you!

Out of everything that you asked for there is one question to be answered right away: Suggest you use the moderator of this forum for your Visa agent. Get a consultation and then you will have a course of action plan all laid out. Saves you a ton of time and stress.

You are in luck. The Berlin embassy is one of the more straightforward ones when it comes to the DTV. Meaning, they don’t make unreasonable demands and pretty much only ask exactly what is mentioned in the law pertaining the DTV visa. What you would need is to show the equivalent of at least 500k THB / so about

EUR in savings in a bank account in your name. In addition to that you need to show that you are eligible and allowed to work remotely. In my case I just showed them my German company registration. Bundle all supporting documents in a single PDF and add a cover letter explaining how you are free to work remotely from Thailand and that you have no intention of working for Thai customers. And you should be good.

Frank-Steven Eichholtz that sounds easy. I just have the problem that my job now is not remote. So I will start to work remote as a freelancer doing the same kind of work just for different companys. But I didnt start yet because I need to wait until I am official unemployed because right now I am not allowed to work in the same branche. How many months of income out of your remote job did you have to proof?

Thank you

Sara Haack I personally did not have to proof any sort of remote income, beyond showing them my savings. But that is because I had my own incorporated company registered in Germany in my name + a letter from that company saying I am free to be the managing director remotely from Thailand. If you don’t have your own company and are doing freelance work, they would likely expect you to show some sort of portfolio or clients. Maybe you can just set up profiles in some of the remote work platforms like fiverr etc - if that is your plan. Depends on your circumstances.

The Thai embassy's website in Berlin explains everything. Read it and try to understand. Then.....come back and ask questions

You need 500k baht or equivalent determined by the consulate you will use in your personal account in bank with 3 months of bank statements, depending where you apply some expect each statement to show 500k others only the final statement. Employment contract and 2 or 3 pay slips, along with a letter from your employer stating you are allowed to work remotely from Thailand and will not interact with any Thai entities or clients inside Thailand. The rest should be pretty self explanatory

The pay slip requirement isn’t based in the law pertaining the DTV - and only „required“ by some embassies. The Berlin embassy did not require it. Also at least when I did it in Berlin, a single bank statement showing the equivalent of 500k THB+ was sufficient. All I showed was that bank statement + a letter from my employer (which happened to be a company I fully own) that I am free to work from everywhere including Thailand. No submission of a full employment contract or any additional things needed. It looks like the Berlin embassy was / and hopefully still is not following the lead of some other embassies (yes, you London) on making requirements up.
