So British passport holders currently get 60 days visa free - but must have an onward flight booked for obviously under sixty days- but what if you want to extend your stay for a further 30 days ? 🫣🤔
Answer summary
British passport holders can enter Thailand visa-free for 60 days but need to have an onward flight booked. To extend their stay by 30 days, there are several strategies discussed in the community, such as changing the onward flight, purchasing a cheap bus ticket to neighboring countries, or booking flights that are refundable or can be canceled. However, it's essential to note that visa extensions are not guaranteed, and the individual immigration officer has discretion over granting extensions. Users emphasized being cautious with fake bookings to avoid entry denial.

I think the proof of 20,000 thb is little laughable 60 days on 20,000.How you gonna get through even if you prepaid for all your accommodation in advance.

It's fine if you have within 90 days as you have legal option of extension. Airlines will allow you to board and no problem with immigration - speaking from direct experience

Why can’t the Thai government just clarify the rules. Its not hard they make the changes.

People saying buy a bus ticket out of Thailand, but would airline check in counters accept this? I've been reading that they want to see onward flight tickets with a passenger name record.

Don’t buy a fake ticket I always buy a legit ticket out of the country even if I plan to extend. Immigration wants to see confirmation of booking and can ask you to show proof of payment like receipt of flight.

British don't need an onward flight no matter what Google says. For British passport for any country you Google UK gov country and it tells you exactly what you need to do to visit, it's specific to your UK passport. So if you Google UK gov Thailand - look under entry requirements - it doesn't say onward flight. It used 16 years ago. Now Google UK gov Philippines - look under entry requirements - it specifically states onward travel. That's the difference. I travel to Thailand and Philippines during a months holiday every 4 months. When I book Thailand I never book my exit cause I never know when I will leave and only once have I been asked, think that was Etihad, I just said I don't know when I will leave. Philippines I have no choice, they check it at check in and if they don't see one you cannot check in.

Mark Wright Absolute nonsense! On the website of Thai embassy in Londen you will find requirements for visa exempt and 60 day tourist visa, both require a ticket for onward travel.

If im flying from UK then I'd purchase a cheap ticket for within the 60 day period not because of immigration but more for the airline at Heathrow, Dublin etc.

Living in a neighbouring country to Thailand, I have never bought an exit ticket of any type when flying into Thailand. The airlines locally have never checked (for exit tickets) me or my wife during check-in at the airports, amd as with longhaul flights, immigration have never asked for proof of exit. This is my personal experience over the past 3 years.

If u like to break the 60 day rule itself. U not allowed to get the visa fre. Get the proper visa

The extension isn’t made for that purpose. Is made for extensions when you are already here.

Last year I had ghe 60 day on entry they moved the goalposts in June so when I went to extend it 30 days they said because I'd done a border bounce in January that year I could only get 7 days 2k baht that wax Friday afternoon so I over stayed till Sunday 1k baht at nongkai border went to loas 1700 baht at the border ! taxi to Vientiane 500baht 3 nights hotel 3k baht ! tuk tuk to embassy 500 naht and waited 2 hours for us ! there's an agent outside took my photo I went and sat in the coffe shop she sorted all the paper work for a non O 1.500 baht! 2 k to embassy I got it 2 days later ! Got to border printed out the paperwork cost 30 baht quick chat with I o straight back home enjoyed the trip especially the beerlao !

You do not automatically get a 30 day extension. You might get one, once per calendar year but you also might not. You still need a ticket out of the country within 60 days of arrival. Rebook that or do whatever you want but the visa exemption is only 60 as standard and without a visa, you're not supposed to plan for a longer stay.
Pet****
Pet****
Jonas Persson i checked with airline and immigration before flying - ticket out within 90 days is fine, at least if it's your first time in that year. And all went fine.
Paul *******
Paul *******
Petally there is no longer a 2nd extension of 7 days meaning a total of97 days..A flight out 90 days and having extended to from 60 to 90 is fine CURRENTLY. come on 2 visits voa a yr only . They will tell you at immigration on 2nd visit try it again and you will be denied entry without a proper visa.

Jonas *********
Jonas *********
Paul Franklin Anyone can but it is not guaranteed, only once twise per year and only 7 days the second time. Immigration sees a visa exemption as 60 day, or 30 if they actually do as they said they would and count the extension as a separate stay. You still need a ticket out of Thailand after 60 days.

If you go to the Thai EVISA site (Ministry/Embassy) site and enter UK and 60 days it tells you you can come in for 60 days without a visa. I see nowhere there where it tells you the requirements. That said, under "Tourist Visa", it says "Travel Booking Confirmation". Huh ?

On the UK Thai Embassy site, it says. "Onward travel within the 60 days (for visa-exempt)."

So, they don't seem to quite agree, do they ?

And, it is Thai Immigration (Royal Thai Police) who has the final say in whether you get in or not, and good luck finding that.

*I* am a Yank, if it matters. ANECDOTAL information seems to suggest that Immigration doesn't really care unless they want to support their decisions to NOT let you in, something fairly rare. i.e. there's something else bothering them, usually about the incoming passenger's overall record of entries, or there's something in their computer about you they don't like.

e.g. I came in visa-exempt last November, and my return flight was in 90 days. The AIRLINE cared about it, but the agent, upon checking HER computer(s) realized, or her boss told her, that a 30-day extension was pretty routine so long as the traveler hasn't misbehaved, in which case he'd have been asked to leave earlier anyway. LOL

So, I boarded the plane, and upon arrival the IO never said a word.

Again, this was my, and apparently any number of others', experience. YMMV, it IS Thailand after all.

Good luck. And enjoy.👍

Ain’t happening imo. How long has this been waiting for the decision now? They’ve 100% crunched the numbers and they aren’t happy with it. Arrivals and basically every other recorded metric for tourism is down.

Also Vietnam just announced an 90 day e visa for every nationality. Let’s see if Thailand actually follow through with it because I highly doubt they will, already losing tourists left right and centre but blaming it on the Iran war. 60 down to the 30 is only another reason why tourists will continue to choose Vietnam

Greg Alexander this, and dummyfares are not "fake" tickets. Dummyfares, and i assume this one, make a fully refundable purchase, so you have a legitimate booking which is simply canceled after you arrive. You can literally do it yourself by finding which airlines offer a fully refundable filght reservation, and booking it yourself, then cancel. These companies just offer the ease of not researching it for £15 or less.
