TLDR : Answer Summary
Upon entering Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption, it is possible to extend your stay. You can either apply for a one-time 30-day extension at a local immigration office or leave Thailand and re-enter to receive a new 30-day visa exemption. However, it's important to have an onward ticket when entering on a visa exemption. Some travelers have reported being granted additional time after brief trips to neighboring countries, but experiences may vary depending on the immigration officer's discretion.

I’m Australian and entered Thailand on 30 days visa exempt, got 30 days extension then went to Vietnam for two days, on return l was questioned and told l would only be permitted to stay 30 more days. They asked if l had a flight booked out of Thailand to which l replied not yet, they granted me 30 days exemption and I will be going to immigration next week to see if l can get 30 days extension

ouch, that's rough. Normally a second back to back exemption should not yield any warnings yet. Even a third shouldn't.

I’m currently working on my marriage visa and don’t think it would be a problem. This was at BBK airport and l got a female Muslim immigration officer under training with a old female immigration officer so hopefully no problem when l go to Buriram immigration office next week and attempt an extension

you won't have problems getting the extension. If your next entry is with the marriage visa (or an extension of it), you won't have any problems there either.

A third exempt entry after two maxed out exemptions may yield a warning but should also still work, should there occur any delays with the marriage visa.

A few days trip out of Thailand will give you another 30 days visa exemption as explained, and this is a good option if you plan and would like some days in a nearby country anyway. Just remember if you enter without any visa on a 30 days visa exemption, you formally need an onward ticket out of Thailand within 30 days anyway.

There’s no 30 days visa, just a 30 days visa exemption as explained.

You can apply one time for a 30 day extension at your local immigration office. Or leave Thailand and return and get a new 30 day visa exempt stamp.

Or better yet, apply for a tourist visa before you travel to Thailand and then you'll get 60 days when you arrive and can apply once for a 30 day extension.

just checked, in my case, I can go to get 60 days e-visa online. but the only problem is I need to book return flight ticket, as they require for submission. if I book for staying 60 days but they do not approve my evisa application (just in case), then I have to buy another return ticket and return in 30 days.

I've just received my SETV from my home country (UK) But in the application I only provided my one way ticket to Thailand, I obviously have a onward flight out of Thailand incase they ask for it upon arrival at immigration, hope this helps.

You don't need a return ticket. What you need to show is an onward journey out of Thailand
