I'm an Italian woman and I'm coming to Thailand with my 75-year-old mother. We've booked a 75-day return ticket with Emirates (from December 15, 2025, to February 28, 2026).
We'd like to know what we need to do for the visa.
How does it work for a 75-day stay?
Thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
As Italian passport holders, you and your mother can enter Thailand visa-exempt for up to 60 days. Since your stay is planned for 75 days, you'll need to check with Emirates about their policies regarding onward travel tickets within 60 days, as they may require proof of exit from Thailand within that timeframe. You can apply for a 30-day extension at a Thai Immigration Office after entering the country.
As an Italian passport holder you're entitled to a 60 days visa exemption entry into Thailand but you'll need to show your carrier(airline) and possibly Thai Immigration onward travel within 60 days. You can apply for a 30 days extention of stay at your local Thai Immigration Office once you've arrived in the Country

Emirates vereist dat je kunt aantonen dat je binnen 60 dagen Thailand weer verlaat, of anders een 90 daagse visum aanvragen. Ik vlieg ook met Emirates (78 dagen) en dat was wat ze tegen mij zeiden.
You could not be more wrong! EMIRATES is one of few airlines that will accept a return flight ticket within 90 days for somebody who wants to fly to Thailand without a visa. EMIRATES does acknowledge that you can extend the 60 days stay permit you receive when entering visa-exempt, by 30 more days for 1900 THB on Immigration. This policy is described on the website of the EMIRATES
the problem is: on the phone, many people just talk any nonsense they pull out of their noses, without real knowledge. A colleague of mine once got told a WRONG info by a KLM Airline staff member . . . . . . That's why I NEVER rely on any advices given on a phone call. I rely only on answers given by email - because I can print it and take it to the Check-in counter, in case some nutcase has a different opinion

OK⦠and what did you do?
A 90-day visa or an exit ticket from Thailand before the 60 days?

The only easy accessible 90 day visa is the non O over 50 retirement visa which needs you to be over 50 and have 800kbaht or equivalent in your own bank account, that of course would be for both you and your mum, other visa that give you 90 days or more take a little longer like the DTV or LTR visa. Other tourist visas onky give you 60 days per entry so are no different to visa exempt
Just go on the website and get yourself a 90 day none immigrant visa and that should cover you.
Itβs usually a one entry only but having to mess around going to immigration after 60 days and paying fees.

Since you will enter on a 60 day visa exempt but have return tickets that are at 75 days you will need to check with your airline if that is OK, normally they would expect you to have a return ticket within the visa exempt period i.e. 60days. If they say you need an onward travel ticket then you will need to look at options to purchase a cheap throw away ticket to a near bye country within the 60 days
EMIRATES is one of few airlines that will accept a return flight ticket within 90 days for somebody who wants to fly to Thailand without a visa. EMIRATES does acknowledge that you can extend the 60 days stay permit you receive when entering visa-exempt, by 30 more days for 1900 THB on Immigration.
it is good for all citizens of 93 countries who can enter Thailand visa-exempt

I had heard that I would have to buy an exit ticket from Thailand before 60 days. Some say there are no problems and others say that i need an onward ticket. So i donβt know what to do π

I've never been asked and even did it last time and wasted the money they didn't ask or care
just give Emirates your flight conpany a ring and ask them, tell them you have tickets that return at 75 days will that be ok?

Ok i will, Thank you!

If your flight company say yes then you should be good to go. They check typically because they are responsible for getting you home if you dont get through thai immigration. Hope you enjoy your trip π

If you both have Italian passports then you don't need a visa. You'll be eligible for visa exempt which will give you a 60 day stamp when you enter. About a month into your trip you'll need to go to the immigration office where you are and apply for the 30-day tourism extension.

Great, thank you!
I heard I had to buy a ticket out from Thailand before the 60 days, even though I had a return ticket.

Depends on your airline, ask them. If they want just bye any bus or train ticket out of Thailand. Train 2. class from Nong Khai to Vientiane in Lao costs about 100 baht.
l fly with Emirates all the time they don't require a return ticket for check in never been asked and l double checked with them before and neither does your TDAC.
