Fantastic information on getting the visas.

But what about what to do next? on return from ho chi minh with a 1 year non o multiple visa (based on marriage)

1) do you have to visit the local immigration office straight away or even at all?

2)do you have to visit them after every 90 day border bounce or can you use the TM 30 online programme to sign in

3)do they ever want additional info (as required when going down the route of extension) such as photos, map of address, and will they ever come to our house to check us?

TLDR : Answer Summary
After obtaining a 1-year Non-O multiple entry visa based on marriage in Thailand, it's important to know the follow-up steps. Firstly, upon your return, you will receive a 90-day stamp, which requires you to either visit the local immigration office to file a TM30 within 24 hours or use the TM30 online program if your property owner is enrolled. After each 90-day border run, it is essential to comply with local regulations—visiting immigration is advisable for updates and to clarify preferences. Additionally, it's crucial to understand that the visa you received in a foreign consulate differs from extensions granted by immigration, and while inspections may not occur, the requirements can vary significantly.

Would it be fair to say maybe the best option is to go into the local I/O at some point with my wife and ask them what they prefer?

#3 I understand they are totally different, just find it facinating the requirements are so different and that they will never come to check on us, as they visit often our neighbours who are on year long extensions

yep, go ask them at your immigration office and see what they say about whether they want you to do it or not and whether your wife can sign up to use the online program or not

nope that's not how it works when you're on a visa that limits your time in thailand to 90 days each entry.

as far as #2, that's between you and the property owner on whether they will sign up for the online TM30 system and let you use the user name and log in or not,

AND

#3 don't confuse the year-long, VISA you have from a thai consulate in another country to a year long extension you'd get from the immigration office. Two completely different things entirely.

when you come in you get a 90 day stamp, when that runs out you go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in and out of another country and stamp right back into thailand to get a new 90 day stamp. You do that for the whole year your visa is good for.

NOW whether you visit your local immigration office to file a TM30 (which LEGALLY you are supposed to do) within 24 hours of every time you enter the country is on you. That's between you and your immigration office SO I'd say I see a visit to your immigration office in the near future :P
