TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the user's interest in applying for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand after currently holding an Education (ED) visa. Community members provide various suggestions for obtaining necessary documentation and recommend resources such as Thai Embassy websites and visa service agents. Some comments discuss the complexities of transitioning to a DTV visa from an ED visa, especially regarding remote work legality under different visa types.

If you're already in thailand and on another visa it's going to be complicated. Get yourself an agent. I used this one while I was staying in thailand. She's very good. Add her on line app

Read the website of the Thai Embassy you will apply at.

Depends if company or soft.

Be warned though, if you have been here on an ED visa and you go the company route as employee or earning money, it’s possible that they will know you have been working while in Thailand illegally. So it might not be the best fit as a visa.

It may also not ever be an issue. But I wouldn’t take that chance.

it does not matter at all and they dont care… remote work is not considered „working in thailand“. same with the DTV, TR, ED, Elite, etc.. cannot get a work permit and visa even states „work prohibited“. work means working for/with thai entities… not a single case where someone on ED or similar got problems with remote work. the news you read over the years were people doing stuff with locals or doing local jobs… you cannot even get a work permit with a marriage visa for your remote work… tldr: its no problem
Re ********
@Kevin *******
I thought if working remotely from Thailand, receiving income abroad is ok.
Kevin ********
Re Davies only if you have a visa that allows work. Many people stayed on ED or bounced while working. And the enrolled now is that if on an ED it states NO work that would mean no work at all. Imagine applying for a remote work visa now and saying you have your own company and that you run it remotely. You see the issue?
Dany ********
@Kevin *******
thats incorrect. the DTV also explicitly says „work prohibited“…. work in thailand means working with / for thai entities… no problem at all if you work remotely for non thai… never an issue

don’t understand what i wrote? Where did i mention working in Thailand?

I talked about if he has been on an ED visa but has been working remotely and now declares papers to say he has a remote business and income etc, then he has been here working illegally as on an ED visa NO work is allowed here OR remotely. Think you should read my 1st reply again.

@Kevin *******
i understand what you wrote… but no one cares if you worked remotely while on ED. its not considered work when its for a non thai entity. even the DTV says „work prohibited“ ;) no one ever had a problem with working under ED, TR, Elite, etc…
Kevin ********
@Dany *******
ok, so no one has ever had an issue then. If that’s what you want to believe you carry on. They reject over 1000 people every week when entering the country through the 2 Bangkok airports alone. Do you ever see posts about being turned away?
Dany ********
@Kevin *******
what exactly does a rejection at the border have to do with remote work under any of those visa? nothing… people getting denied for all sorts of reasons. i have never heard of someone beein rejected because they work remotely
Kevin ********
@Dany *******
because he can be asked any questions the IO wants when entering, and if they don’t like the answer they will simply reject.

And they do…

To go from an ED to DTV if they ask if he is working and how long he has been working, and slip in dates risks rejection. And they can see everything ont here screen for his history and visas.

It’s not a 3rd world county, they have the technology to actually know what you are upto coming and going from here. And they definitely look at visas and history.

@Kevin *******
why dont you understand that it’s perfectly fine to work remotely under ED, TR, DTV, Marriage, Elite, etc.??? all those visa say „work prohibited“ which means work in thailand for a thai entity… remote work isnt considered work by thai authorities… even the DTV has listed „work prohibited“ on your eVisa… no one gets scrutinized for remote work under any visa… you are making things up that are just not true… but surely you can link a few sources where a remote worker got into trouble because of his work for a non thai entity….

You need $100,000 in your bank.

You need to have a Louis Vuitton suitcase.

You need to be able to recite the Thai alphabet backwards whilst standing on your head.

Should be fine.

Would recommend HCMC Vietnam embassy based ofd of mine and others experience (i got workaction some of my pals got soft power) would not recommend Kuala Lumphur embassy, very strict and a big headache!
Luit *****************
@Callum ******
Why should strict be a problem as long as you comply to requirements.

i ask myself the same thing, its not universal, some embassies in some countries just like to throw their weight about. Had similar for British embassies too when I have had passport related or visa stuff to sort
Andi ***********
Check the Thai Embassy website of the country you will apply from. Also 1000s of posts in the thread detail the docs to submit.

follow this as best advise. It embassy specific. Once you know the embassy you are applying at and the category you can then search in the site. You have to do the ground work yourself if you get stuck with specific issue then ask here. Everyone is the same but you work it out yourself it's not that difficult
