What are the implications of staying at a hotel and then at a private residence regarding TM30 reporting in Thailand?

I've got a hypothetical scenario. If I fly into Thailand, stay in a hotel (who does TM30 reporting) for one night and then go and stay in a private residence for several nights who won't do TM30 reporting, would I be likely to avoid trouble? Should I need to make an extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you stay one night in a hotel that handles TM30 reporting and then move to a private residence that does not, you may risk issues with immigration if you attempt to extend your stay using the private residence address. Compliance with TM30 regulations is essential to avoid fines.

It is all explained in this article. Follow it up and you have no problems, don't follow it up, be ready to pay fines

I imagine any trouble could arise if you go to immigration for an extension using a different address than the tm30 one.
