What are the implications of not reporting my address to immigration when leaving Thailand?

Shoot, I forgot to go to Immigration! I left the country last month as my 6 month multiple entry was about to run out, then I came back on a 30 day tourist visa.

Those 30 days run out on the 11th of december but I'll fly over to Europe anyways from Phuket.

But I just remembered that my landloard mentioned that if I should ever leave and reenter the country that I would need to report my 'new' address to the immigration myself. However I have a long-term lease and would always return to the same address anyways.

What do I have to expect when I leave the country now? Some sort of penalty?

Would there be any chance of fixing this when I go to immigration on Monday? Or would that be too late? It's been about 3 weeks now that I am back in Thailand.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user forgot to report their address to Thai immigration after returning on a 30-day visa, and now they are concerned about potential penalties when leaving the country. Community responses clarify that while it is necessary to file a TM30 within 24 hours of re-entering Thailand, passport control often does not enforce this. The likelihood of being fined is higher when attempting to extend a visa at immigration if the TM30 was not filed. Ultimately, leaving the country might proceed without issue, but addressing the TM30 upon return to Thailand is advised to avoid complications.

Thanks everybody!😊

I'll then don't go report at immigration but will risk just leaving the country to see whatever happens. If they make me pay a fine, that would at least make me learn it for the next time🤣

like I said, the people at passport control (that stamp you out of the country) don't care if you did or didn't file a TM.30. They won't say one word to you about it

It's only the people at the local immigration office who care

you are a font of knowledge and most helpful!

Could you please confirm this for me if you can? I am on a SE Non immigrant visa I obtained in the UK (expires 6 Jan) I need to go to Singapore on Tues and my lawyer told me I need re entry stamp to come back on same non O visa. That's fine but when I went to immigration they said I also need docs to get certificate of residence (Thai owner ID card, house registration, rental contract etc) and gave me a form to fill (notification form for house-master). Is this TM30? I moved into my house 1 month ago and so now concerned I might get fined for not getting certificate of residence earlier, or should my landlady have done it? (I'm in Phuket) Thanks for any advice 🙏

And if it was my landlady's responsibility and she didn't do it yet, what are the consequences?

When I was first here I actually hadn't heard of the TM30. The officer didn't mind but wanted me to fill one out there and then when doing my 90 day report after return from holiday. I had to go back home to get some documents but that was all. The next time we came back from holiday my wife called next day to check if they wanted me to come with it or not and they said Nevermind just bring it with your next 90 day report.

What if I'm listed in the blue book as a tenant but my father is the owner of the condo in Bangkok, but doesn't live in the country do I still have to do the TM 30 for my bf whenever he re-enters the country? Am I allowed to? Does it really matter? When he enters the country he uses my address but says he's staying with a friend.

Thank you very much

@Anch****
, nope, I wouldn't even waste the energy thinking about it. You're in bangkok so don't worry.
Martin **********
By the sound of it bkk doesn't seem to care but here in Pattaya they do
Martin **********
In theory everyone has to do it on rerun to Thailand apart from people staying in hotels as they report for you
Pongsrirojana **********
So I'm ok then. We plan on the leaving the country next month and was wondering if I really have to go to immigration within 24hrs upon return. Thank you.
Martin **********
@Tod ********
seems to be a hot topic here in pattaya now as plenty out of work oil and gas guys who own property having to do visa runs an extetions. Your in bkk so know locally but it's an old law that has resurfaced so maybe in future for tourists coming in staying at a friend's house the will need to file the TM30.i got told it was to track movements after the erawin bombing
Tod *********
@Mar***
, she said they are in Bangkok, so she doesn't need to do it
Tod *********
The Bangkok immigration office doesn't care about whether you, your father or your b/f has filed a TM.30 or not. They are not all mad and sick about foreigners filing this form.

However, in theory (and according to the letter of the law), you, your father or your b/f should file a TM.30.
Martin **********
Yes if your bf staying at your place you will need to go to immigration with him within 24hrs to register him or your father faces the fine. Apparently some condo managements know about this so worth speaking to you condo management as they may be able to do for you and save the hassle
Selina *******
So every time you do a visa run you're required to go to immigration within 24 hours and file a TM.30? And if you haven't done so, and go to get your visa exempt entry extended, you'll be fined?
Ադամ ********
Depends on your local office. I own my condo in Chiang Mai. Last year I had to pay the 1600. Now I go everytime I come back to Thailand( almost every month). It is reported CM Gives 7 days leeway for “update same address”
David ************
This stuff is getting crazy. I renewed my license the other day and even though I am on a valid extension of stay in my passport I still had to go to immigration to get a letter to substantiate it. It was a two day event.
Selina *******
@Tod ********
ah, okay, got it. I just saw the comment above about Chiang Mai being rabid about it unless you're here on a 30 day visa exempt and wasn't sure.
Tod *********
@Selina ******
If you are in Bangkok you don't need to worry about the form period. IF you stay at a guest house or hotel anywhere in thailand you don't worry about it either

If you are in another province where the immigration office is crazy about the form you do worry about it. If you do have to file the form the time limit is within 24 hour everywhere, no one gets a longer time to do it..
Selina *******
@Tod ********
, so if you're here on a 30-day visa exempt you don't have to file it? Or at least not within 24 hours?
Tod *********
@Patts *****
nope, hotels and guest houses do it online every day.
Tod *********
@Louisa ******
nope, chiang mai is rabid about this form (except for people on tourist visas or 30 day visa exempt entries) You have 24 hours to report and file a TM.30 or you're gonna get fined 1600bht. They were one of the very first immigration officers to get all crazed about this form.
Selina *******
What do you mean? A longer time frame to file?
Louisa *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@T**
, We're in Chiang Mai 🤣

And Selina, I know that for foreigner there's a longer time frame but not quite sure how long.
Patts ******
@Tod ********
if I'm staying in a hotel I presume I don't need to worry?
David ************
Chumphon doesn’t care either.
Selina *******
Good to know!
Tod *********
ONLY if you live in an area where the immigration office is rabid about foreigners filing this form :( In Bangkok they don't care about it. In Samut Prakan, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Buriram and other places they DO care about it and fine people for not doing it on time.
Martin **********
Morash *******
@Tod ********
...thats nice to know. So i can choose any in Bangkok and not worry about it... And Yeah...i should probably get there earlier ... Thanks for the advice.
Tod *********
@Morash ******
bangkok doesn't care if you've done a TM.30 or not, so that'd be my choice.

BTW: you can go file for an extension of stay when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp. It doesn't help you to wait until the last day because they ADD the extension on to your current stamp, and you don't lose any days going early.
Morash *******
Tod Daniels not sure yet but I gotta go end of December. Which one do u recommend in Bangkok?
Tod *********
@Mor***
, what immigration office are you going to use?
Martin **********
Potetialy yes . If you rent it's the agent to pay fine but If you own the property you may get fined
Morash *******
Will I be fined if it's first time am gonna get extension and didn't file my current address?
Martin **********
Correct only if you go to local immigration for extention you are likely to get fined now
Tod *********
On this 30 day entry the O/P has, IF the person doesn't have to go to the immigration office for anything there is no danger of being fined for failing to file a TM.30 when they stamp out of the country.

The people at passport control don't care at all if you did or didn't file one at the immigration office. They only stamp you in and out of the country
Tod *********
The fact you have a long term lease means nothing, the rule is you report your address to immigrations within 24 hours of getting back "home" via the TM.30.

Personally, if you're not going to extend your current 30 day visa exempt entry I wouldn't even go to the immigration office for the TM.30, because you're almost sure to get a fine for not having done it on time.

Just stamp out of the country when you leave this time and when you come back make sure you go file the TM.30 on time.
Martin **********
I got fined 1600 baht this week when doing 30 day tourist visa extention. As property owner I've to go to immigration now within 24hrs of arrival back into Thailand.I or face 200 baht daily fine. I now have aTM30 in my passport to show immigration on my arrival. I can't see a problem you leaving as not overstayed however things are changing so . I was told it's the owner of property liable for fines and for letting immigration know of tenants movements and the tenant has to also go down within 24hrs of arrival with passport and get TM30 card. Maybe when you go Monday you can explain but expect a fine
Martin **********
Samwise Fila this was my 3rd extention this year and 1st fine.my mate did it last week no fine.the guy in front of me was renting and got told agent liable for fine.its up to property owner to let immigration know of tenants movements
Μά ****
my bf also paid 1600....
Martin **********
If you rent you have to take copy of rental contract if you own you take chanoot or if don't have chanoot take contract of property purchase
Tod *********
Umm, you came back in on a 30 day visa exempt entry NOT a tourist visa :/

Be that as it may, nothing is gonna happen when you go to stamp out of the country because those people at passport control don't care about the TM.30 form.

However IF you go to get this 30 day visa exempt stamp extended at the immigration office and you don't have a TM.30 you might have a problem, BUT I'm 100% sure when you fly out you won't have any problem at all.
