The discussion highlights the temporary closure of airports in Thailand, particularly affecting Phuket, which is noted to shut down from April 10 to April 30. Commenters express concern over the senselessness of the airport closures and mention broader implications of potential global travel suspensions. The conversations reflect uncertainty about international travel resuming and the impact on expats in Thailand.

Yes - obviously many of the measures to mitigate the epidemic spread have helped. But the ratcheting down of movement to the point of destroying the economies of countries is bad policy. Leadership is being pressured by rampant news media hype. The news media seems to never cease increasing the exaggeration of the epidemic.
So much of it has become political arguments of Left VS Right. And 90+% of Western World news media is Leftist. The exception are the controlled countries, such as China, Iran and number of very controlled smaller countries. No one wants to be like China - but today's news in Western Countries is a coordinated Leftist controlled script.

He said that expected increases in National Health Service capacity and ongoing restrictions to people’s movements make him “reasonably confident” the health service can cope when the predicted peak of the epidemic arrives in two or three weeks. UK deaths from the disease are now unlikely to exceed 20,000, he said, and could be much lower.
His initial statement was if they did nothing...
I DO agree with you on the fact that people in Thailand are leaving high density areas to go back to their home provinces (which is the exact opposite of restricting movement) is not helpful. But to ay that social distancing, and movement restriction is not necessary is incorrect.

Actually from the CDC website USA current Total cases: 122,653
and Total deaths: 2,112. From the world meter it's higher.

Here you you go. The top Doc in the U. S. Dr. Fauci has been leading epidemic thwarting efforts since the HIV/AIDS out break in the 1980s. He has headed these fights for every epidemic since including H1N1 Swine Flu and Ebola

EXCERPT from Article: Team headed by Dr. Anthony Fauci (Top Doc - Advisor) U.S. effort to thwart the Covid-19 epidemic. March 26, 2020
On the basis of a case definition requiring a diagnosis of pneumonia, the currently reported case fatality rate is approximately 2%.4 In another article in the Journal, Guan et al.5 report mortality of 1.4% among 1099 patients with laboratory-confirmed Covid-19; these patients had a wide spectrum of disease severity. If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively
, I think you are overlooking the fact that this is a "new" disease, and quite contagious. This was not realised in the early stages. Now that we know that it is quickly and easily spread, you can expect the numbers to rise quite dramatically. So, even if the mortality rate is say .1%, it will be .1% of a much higher number of people
So, a restriction of movement would help slow, and eventually stop the rampant spread. Small countries (Check some in the Carribean for example) are doing it. Canada is doing it in some provinces. The UK did not do it right away. Italy did not do it right away.
Just my 10 baht.

Joe - the main issue isn’t so much the relatively low mortality but it’s contagious nature. Hospitals would be swamped and overrun if it’s left alone

Well with your education you will understand that Covid is possibly x50 more contagious that flu and x10 more deadly. Saying it is no more than a bad flu, is ridiculous especially with all the data that has come out in the last week. Try telling your thoughts to an Italian or Spaniard, perhaps next week the USA will start to understand from their own experience.

Killing a nations economy is wrong. Steps taken should have been a national program to isolate and protect the elderly and vulnerable
That says "except by air"- that's the only thing staying open for the moment. Land and sea closes now, airport closes 10 April. But Air Asia and others are stopping flights from 1 April anyway.
