So what acceptable as far as visa on arrival goes.
I just lost my tkt to Thailand because trying to get there with a visa meant I needed to buy 175 euro worth of risky visa submission and I could lose the money if not given a visa

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the confusion regarding visa requirements for entry into Thailand, particularly for holders of a Greek passport. Users clarify that Greek citizens do not need a visa for short stays (60 days) and can enter Thailand visa-exempt. Concerns were raised about lost tickets and application fees for visas, with an emphasis on understanding which visa type to apply for, especially after warnings from immigration about previous entries. The key takeaway is that Greek passport holders should aim for a tourist visa or understand their eligibility for visa exemption to avoid complications.
mate I understand.. unfortunately having suffered brain inflammation cfs/fibromyalgia and nearing 70 . I used the wrong words while asking my question. Some of us struggle to get the correct wording out
I’m a stroke survivor myself and struggle with alll kinds of paperwork. I definitely pay a lot more than doing everything myself and in the past managed tourist visas myself but now that it came to a longer term visa i paid an agent for assistance with papers. It’s definitely easier on a real computer instead of an iPhone. Especially the document uploads
exactly.. it was several days of one attempt after another to try fit and fix photos and documents into the visa application categories , while it kept flagging everything . 3 megapixel photos, when your phones at 3.6…
Unfortunately I’m vacationing in greece not in Thailand with all those visa agents
they helped me back when i was still at home in Switzerland

Why would you risk losing your ticket, for the sake of €175. Unless you’re an undesirable or traveling for none legitimate reasons. I can’t see how you would not be granted a visa. Also, why wouldn’t you book all flight tickets with free refunds or free transfer, if there was a risk of not getting a visa. Doesn’t add up to me
I know. When I did China, I had to book not only flights but hotels, submit an itinerary and pay £200. It took a week to do the visa and I had no guarantee of getting the visa and no refund if I was refused. So I booked everything with free cancellation. I also would have no issue losing the £200. If they said no. It’s their country. Who am I to argue with them 😜
there are no free visas for thailand. Only a visa exemption which isn't a visa

Imagine arriving on a 30-day visa exemption, clutching a sweaty passport while sipping a young coconut. Meanwhile, a tocay shrieks like a demon in a karaoke bar—seven croaks if you’re lucky, cursed if it’s five. Some say tocays guard coconut trees from illegal overstays, others claim they ride tuk-tuks after midnight straight into Chiang Mai moonbeams. Visas are transient. Coconuts eternal. Tuk-tuks indifferent. Tocays watching.
I already purchased a return trip from Athens back to Thailand..but the immigration people at the airport pulled me up and said I needed a visa on my next visit
aah. What passport? Because heaps of countries get 60 days entry without needing a visa. Best thing to do is check with your local Embassy. I'm an Aussie so no need for a visa unless I'm looking for longer than 60 days, so I basically have no idea. Sorry

Without knowing your passport country it's impossible to offer advice
I think that because I’ve suffered from cfs /fibromyalgia my inflamed brain struggles to find the right words to form a cognitive sentence at times

Apply for a 60 day tourist visa the once in Thailand get a retirement visa this will be the easiest and cheapest way if you want to have a longer time in Thailand.
WTF is a TKT ?
David *******
If you can’t afford to lose 175 Euro you cannot afford to travel to Thailand
I'd suggest you get an agent to help with entry, the owner of this group is one. If they think they can get you entry they'll let you know. Once here, they can assist you with getting a proper visa as well.

Six months a year on visa exception, beyond that they will deny tourist visa at embassy or at entry to country. If you AU people want to visit more than that you need to pay some money for DTV or get married to Thailand and make the dowery bank deposit
There is no law or rule limiting visa exempt or tourist visa entries. You can do it until you can't. For some that's 6 or 7 entries in a short span, for others in 2 or 3. You are correct though, if youre going to come regularly, get the proper visa for it
ok.. my last entry into Thailand they pulled me into the immigration office and said next trip you need a visa .. this after approx 40 previous entries” over 13 years with … ‘visa on arrival’,
being a Greek passport holder you do not get a visa on arrival, you get a visa exempt entry stamp. If that’s what you were told, purchase a tourist visa from your local Thai embassy/consulate.
that's because you have abused the system. The purpose of Visa exemption is for the tourism and to try to live in Thailand. And it seems that is what you have been trying to do. Stop abusing the system.

I can see why you are confused if your brain thinks what you just wrote makes any sense at all.

Huh? Where are you from tho? Most countries don't need entry visa for thailand
you don't need to be retired to get a "retirement" visa for Thailand, you just need to be 50byears old, meet the financial requirements, and not be working in Thailand.
yes, that’s when they said you need to get a visa next time.
I’m still not fully retired, just working on slowly selling business assets

If you meet the criteria for eligibility and submit the required documents correctly, you should not have to worry however, you may expect up to 6 weeks of waiting for approval depending on your passport.
Hope this helps

My advice is your fish does not need a chair, but I have many potatoes in my suitcase so I feel tree smiles and the posterior of my rug spiral is tornado jewel beetle.
Tony Kourlinis they will deny you entry if you get a tourist visa 🤦♂️ you’re obviously not a tourist and got warned last time so you’re likely flagged in the system

ORIGINAL POSTER
I’ve had 40 entries over 13 years .. never a problem
THen we do not understand your question. As an EU citizen you most likely do not need a visa ... and we do not understand what happend, what is "lost my tkt?" - did you get denied entry? Or did the airline not like to fly you?
I completed my visa application on my iPhone .. seriously hard thing to do with many days and hours of frustration to “make things fit into all the Thai visa categories” ..
Then once completed my multi entry tourist visa would cost I think 175 euro, if rejected, it would have been non refundable
if you have the required documents needed you'd be unlikely to be refused. If there was an item they needed they would ask you to send it. Very unlikely to be refused.
Give him a break. He's Greek, which is why all sounds Greek to you! You do realise it was Greeks who developed what we now know as Mathematics in the 7th Century BC? Sadly, all they've done since then is one solitary European Football Championship and the colonisation of Melbourne Australia, where they introduced decent coffee to Aussies and opened shops on every street corner 😆
You can thank your ancestors for introducing European food and a solid culture to Australia. Although don't thank them for producing my ex-wife who is half-Greek. Our monthly bill for Kalamata Olives was crippling! 😆
Yes But Not with an onewayticket. The Airline won't let him go. So He has to get a Visa or an onward ticket out of Thailand within the 60 days of visaexeption.
is the last immigration officer told you that you need a visa next time or you won’t be allowed to enter, I would probably pay the 40 bucks (or whatever it costs) and just get the visa.
Yes, it seems so. The only way then is to get a visa from the Thai Embassy in whatever country his passport comes from then, do you think?
Lynnette *******
I'll summarise for him
He has greek passport.
He's been coming to Thailand for 13 years on visa exempt ( no visa)
Over 40 visits.
Immigration told him to get a visa and not try to enter visa exempt again
He's worried about losing the visa application cost.
So.. advice would be, apply, carefully check it's been done correctly, wait for approval, have accomodation booked, cash, and onward ticket to leave within the permitted stay.
thanks Lynette .. I have to apologise to all… having spent a decade with cfs /fibromyalgia the brain fog and the nearing 70 means that you can’t find the right word when forming a sentence ..
so I used the word submission instead of application
all entries are at the discretion of the IO. But you have options. You're over 50, apply for retirement visa with the relevant paperwork. Apply for a tourist visa, and make sure you have accomodation, money, and a ticket to leave within the permitted time.
which embassy in Europe you applying through? Most require you to be a resident of that country to apply for a Thai visa. What is your passport nationality?
Ah, right. So do you have an Australian passport? Also, have long do you want to stay in Thailand this time and how many trips have you made here before and over what period of time?
I’m trying to apply for a “Thai visa”..as they’ve said next time you come in you need a visa. I’ve done 40 trips over 13 years on visa on arrival without a problem.
I had a return tkt to Thailand after a 5 week European vacation .. I live in Australia, I bought a tkt to Thailand then while there bought a return tkt from Europe back to Thailand
