Hi everyone!

I have an italian passport and an ED visa that will end on 11th of December.

I am planning to go to Cambodia from 7 to 10 of December in order to get a Visa on Arrival of 30 days once I will go back here in Thailand.

My ticket back to Italy is the 21th of January, and from 27 to 4th January I will be in Bali (flight already bought).

My questions are: what I need to show at the immigration office in order to get the Visa on Arrival? And since I will leave Thailand again on 27 December, can I get 2 Visas of the same type in such a short time?

Thanks for helping

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, holding an Italian passport and currently on an ED visa expiring on December 11, plans a trip to Cambodia and inquires about the requirements to obtain a Visa on Arrival upon returning to Thailand. Comments suggest that Italians typically receive a 30-day visa exemption instead of a Visa on Arrival, recommend canceling the current ED visa before leaving, and highlight potential documentation needed at immigration such as proof of funds, accommodation, and onward travel.

I will have nearly the same problem soon. Usually my ED Visa should be valid until June '18, but my school told me there is a new rule (once again) so the ED Visa only valid for 9 month instead of 12 month. For me it means I should leave the country in march instead of june already. If it's like this, is it easy to get a 60 days Visa in another country so I can stay until June with one extension? Or is this new rule only a farce and I would get a new extension in march for another 3 month with my ED Visa? And I have to do the same like

and need a paper from school I will stop the school? Thank you

Thanks I will do

The visa is available, just not sure about the exact requirements. Follow Tod's suggestion and enquire with KL.

there was a report where someone got a 6 month METV from the consulate in Kuala Lumpur by showing they had multiple flights booked in and out of thailand AND by meeting the financial requirements. They were adamant they got a METV but they wouldn't post a picture of it, so the jury is still out really..

Look on the website of the thai consulate in KL and see the requirements.

Ok, thank you. Do you know is it possible to get a 6 month tourist visa in malaysia or in another counry or is it only available in the home country?

the new rule is NOT a farce and you won't get an extension if the school says you won't because the MOE won't give them the paperwork you need to turn in at the immigration office for the extension.

You should always cancel Non-Immigrant Type extensions of stays when you are stopping what ever it is you're doing to get the extension when you leave the country. That's just the way it is designed to work.

You shouldn't have a problem getting a 60 day tourist visa in another country and the 30 day extension on top of that at the immigration office

, you won't be getting a "visa on arrival" because italians get a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp instead.

Also make sure you go to the immigration office and cancel your current ED visa extension too.

Depending on the border you're entering thailand from you could be requested to show any or all of the 3-proof-ofz

proof of adequate funds (10K baht cash on visa exempt entries)

proof of a hotel booking or confirmed lodging

proof of onward travel in 30 days

You most likely won't be asked to show any of those but be prepared just in case.

You will have no problem getting another 30 day visa exempt entry when you come back to thailand from Bali

Now
@Al***
, I already told you what to do to follow the real rules about ED visa extensions and what you do when you stop studying.

Why, after knowing what the real rules are, would you not want to follow them and risk trouble down the road when you're on some other visa?

I'd say you have a
*****
chance of NOT being stamped out of the country without showing you canceled the extension.

Although if you do get stamped out when you return you will get a 30 day visa exempt entry when you come back in (if the country you come from gets one for here).

I have another question 😄

If I leave the country on 11 December, the same day that my ed visa will expire, and go back on 14, can I get the 30 days visa extempion easily? Without going to the immigration office? Or I have to state anyway that I won’t study anymore?
Amornrat **********
@Alice ************
that the IO will stop you and not let you leave. You have to think the other way around, they want you to prove that you really studied up to the date you decide to leave the country. Example you stopped study 15 October and decide to use the visa as origianl admitted like 7th December, than, in their eyes you overstayed since 15 October.

@Alice ************
it is free to cancel an extension of stay, have the school write a paper that you stop studying on the day you're leaving the country, and the immigration office will cancel your current extension and give you a new stamp good until the day you're leaving.

What kind of problems can I have?

I don’t hate the message nor the messenger, I am just trying to know if I can avoid to go to the immigration office and spend money about this stuff 😅

A visa on arrival is sold to people from 21 countries when they arrive in thailand for 2000baht and they get stamped in for 15 days.

If you show up here without having bought a visa for thailand from a thai consulate you get stamped in for 30 days on the visa exempt program because of the country you come from. You would get a 30 day visa exempt entry entering by air or land.

The way an ED visa works is

IF you are still on the original 90 day entry from the ED visa it will cancel when you stamp out of the country when you leave

HOWEVER

IF you are on an extension of stay (that you got at the immigration office for 1900baht) you need to go cancel the extension of stay with paperwork from your school, then either leave the country that day OR buy a 7 day get out of thailand stamp for 1900baht and leave within a week.

Not canceling it can cause you problems down the road.

I'm just telling you how the process really works. Hate the message if you want to but don't hate the messenger

So if I get in Thailand by flight from Cambodia, I will get a 30 day visa extempt and not a visa on arrival, right?

Plus, why should I go to the immigration office to cancel my Ed visa? It won’t be automatically canceled if I get out of Thailand?
