What are the current travel and COVID-19 situation implications for Canadians returning from Thailand?

Alas, it's time for me to leave this beautiful "developing country" that has attributed fewer than 200 deaths to COVID since it began and return to "first world" Canada, where the virus is running rampant and almost everything is locked-down, locked-up, and/or canceled. I will miss Thailand and I appreciate all of you in this group who helped me with several needs during my time here. I hope when I return, things will be more like "normal" pre-2020 days again.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian expat shares their feelings about leaving Thailand amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, expressing nostalgia for their time there and hope for a return to normalcy in the future. Comments discuss the travel situation back to Canada, including quarantine requirements depending on whether one chooses to fly or walk across the border, and exchange views on the public health situation in both Thailand and Canada.

Pretty much..as of yesteray 45 of our 76 provinces have a mandatory mask law. 4000 baht fine.

Thats 2 wks pay for ave Thai. Already out of work, cant afford masks as the pollution magnifies the need for fresh ones, punish the poor.

Good luck at home. Glad you appreciated Thailand

pretty much, yeah... but with far fewer cases

@Gregory ********
It only has fewer cases because the testing rates are so so low

Who cares about "cases?" ๐Ÿ™„ Deaths are all that really counts. This virus is 99.8% survivable.

yeah 228 test per 1m isn't gonna catch many cases ๐Ÿ˜… Canada is testing 3500 per 1m so naturally they're gonna have a higher case count.

If you fly have to quaritine govt hotel 2-3K for 3 night until covid test comes back neg also need covid test before entry or you can walk to border and no quaritine

What's the situation in Canada, will you need to quarantine? I'm Canadian too but haven't been there in a year.

It's a disaster. Canada is now outpacing the USA for new cases per capita, and the vaccine rollout has been terribly mismanaged. Yes, I have to quarantine for 14 days, 3 at an approved hotel.
