I got a non-O last December and plan to renew.

Do I start from 'zero' again with bank statements, proof of residence etc?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To renew your Non-O visa in Thailand, you will need to submit the same documents as required during your initial application, including bank statements and proof of residence. Each extension is considered a new application, so expect to start from scratch with documentation. For the financial requirements, you must show ฿800,000 in your bank account for at least two months prior to applying for the extension and must not let the balance drop below ฿400,000 for the duration of the year. This confusion often arises because different policies are perceived differently; ensure to clarify any misunderstandings regarding the visa and extension terms.

"the money requirement started at showing ฿800,000 for 90 days prior to applying but after 90 days it drops to ฿400,000" <- this is the requirement to keep your CURRENT extension stay valid.

When you want to apply for a new extension next time, you need to meet the requirement for a NEW application which includes "showing ฿800,000 for 90 days prior to applying" for next extension.

the 800,000 THB need to have seasoned for TWO months, not for 90 days. . . .3 months used to be the OLD requirement, and was discontinued in 2019 . . . . . .now it is "for 2 months prior to application and for 3 months after having been issued the extension"

I just wonder...these requirements are all communicated numerous times, again and again.. How much denser are we getting? Just a little reading will give provide almost all the answers one needs for the basics. Some unusual cases, sure, the folks are here to assist.

Simple stuff, you can find answers, try it!

yeah, "you only have to read" . . . . .In this thread, I already have detected & read TWO false informations ! That's why we shouldn't hesitate to explain it over and over again

The problem is this: People are confused about extension of stays vs. visas, and refuse to read their stamps. I've seen people say they have a multiple entry visa when they actually have an extension of stay with a multiple entry re-entry permit. Plus, it doesn't help that immigration calls everything "visas".

How true ! This Immigration term *Visa* for nearly everythng is much confusing.

What part of "every year is a NEW application" are you not glomming onto? 😮

You get a "retirement extension" a year at a time <- that's the longest they can be issued for.

At the end of that year it runs out and you apply for a brand NEW yearly extension.

As an example; I'm 62 and have been applying for a new yearly extension the last 12 years, each time, submitting the same documentation, bank letter, updated bank book, forms, copies, hand drawn map, every year. It's the exact same documents every year.

The only think you have to be aware of is IF you are using banked money method you need to have had the 800K baht in your account for 3 months AFTER you got your yearly extension last year, then the balance on that account couldn't go below 400 for the rest of the year and then 2 months before you apply for this new extension it has to be back at 800K baht. <- Those are the seasoning terms that are cut in stone (as in there's no wiggle room at all) for banked money method for a retirement extension

OK- wotta flippin nuisance - I thought that the money requirement started at showing ฿800,000 for 90 days prior to applying but after 90 days it drops to ฿400,000 - did I misunderstand that? Will I need to show ฿800,000 ?

@Duke ******
btw dont forget you need to get a 12 month bank statement showing each month balance and transactions . I didn’t see that here from anyone else except to say it’s the same every year doing your extensions , nothing changed

@Jay **********
if he does the application with the deposit method, he doesn't have to show 12 months of bank statements. For the deposit method the "bank letter of guarantee" must only show the balance of the previous TWO months

yes but he mentioned in a comment the 800,000 so I just assumed he uses that method 😎

Consulates do not issue one year extension of stays. Only immigration offices issue one year extension of stays.

The consulates are managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Immigration Offices are managed by the Royal Thai Police. They do NOT communicate with each other.

To renew a one year extension of stay based on being over 50, you will need to have 800K THB seasoned 2 months before applying for an extension of stay and 3 months after applying the extension of stay (NOT 60 days or 90 days, respectfully).

@Benjamin *****
and also not have dropped below 400K THB at any point since previous extension

Yes

think of it this way, EVERY year extension is a NEW application for another year. You need all the documents you needed last year all over again.
Benjamin ******
You will have to submit the same documents you did last year for either your visa or your extension of stay (depending on what you mean by a "non-O").
