Should I apply for a 6-month METV or 2 x 3-month SETV visa for Thailand?

I'm still trying to decide between 2 x 3 month SETV visa or 6 month METV.

For the 6 month - I can get employers letter and I can get the required £5000 in the bank but it won't have been there for 6 months (I leave Sept). Does anyone know how strict they are on this last point? Am I wasting my decision making energy and have no choice but to go for the 2 x 3 month SETV? I'll be applying in London.

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is considering whether to apply for a 6-month METV or two 3-month SETVs for traveling to Thailand. They have the necessary employer's letter and can provide £5000 in their bank account, but it hasn't been in the account for the full 6 months prior to the application. Several comments suggest that while the financial requirement is important, there is some flexibility, as one user mentions being granted the METV with funds held for just 4 months. The 6-month METV is recommended for its greater travel flexibility.

a friend was just granted an METV from London. from his 6 months statements the money had been in around 4 months. Apply for the METV, if they do deny it, they will issue an SETV

Wow - super strict. The money is in my ISA, I'll move it across 😅

Hey I just got mine in London a couple of weeks ago but the lady at the counter was super strict on every single requirement. She refused several people in front of me and made me come back 3 times the same day. I had the money 6 month in my savings account and the official statement from the bank but they insist that the money is in you current account. So I had to move it and get another statement and letter from the bank on the same day. So obviously the money then wasn't in my current account for 6 month. But yes if she denies you on the day she will tell you to apply for single entry instead.

As Jon said above, the money was there for about 4 months but I sent all 6 months worth of statements.

Did you have the cash in the bank for the time they stated?

I sent mine in the post last Wednesday morning and it was returned on Friday with the METV 👍🏻

I have a letter

Also don't forget you need to be employed so you'll need a letter from your employer. If your self employed, they want certified accounts.

yea I'm sending mine in a few weeks

it means a bank statement showing 6 months of transactions and the money been in the account for 6 months. Wether they accept it being there less than 6 months, is up to them.

Remember if your applying in London, it isn't a same day service. It requires 2 trips. 1 to submit and 1 to collect.

So does that just mean a print out of your bank statement with a bank stamp? That way no duration required?

I read something that said 6 months statements or one stamped by your bank, I'm going to try with the stamped statement

Thanks - got it. I was hoping I wouldn't need to go there in person but I think I will to see which one they will grant.

I have no idea how strict London is but I would get the METV if it is attainable to you. It gives you much more flexibility if you feel like travelling, and also allows you to come and go across land borders as much as you please.

Yeah, it's also more convenient that way - you just head to the border every 60 days. Plus remember you can, in effect, get almost 9 months out of an METV (i.e. you re-enter the country 1 day before the visa expires, which gives you 60 days, which you can then extend by a further 30 days at immigration)

Thanks - I'll be pretty static so not too worried about travelling. It's the leaving the country vs border run that's making want the 6 month at the moment.
