Hello everyone.

Would somebody have the time to help me please? I live in Australia and I would dearly love to get over to Phuket for 6 nights in Feb for a Yoga type break. I figure I need to fly to Bangkok, get tested then travel on domestic to Phuket. Any practical easy to understand covid info would be very welcome if you have it. Thanks in advance and sorry if I have missed this info here already. Jenny Butler

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the challenges and requirements for traveling from Australia to Phuket amid COVID restrictions. Key points include the necessity of an international vaccine certificate, a negative PCR test, and guidelines for the Phuket Sandbox Program which allows for no quarantine upon entry if the initial test is negative. However, concerns are expressed regarding the risks of a short trip (6 days) due to the possibility of testing positive and needing to quarantine. Recommendations suggest postponing travel until conditions improve and highlighting the need for extensive planning.

Thanks Everyone, Great info and advice. Def not quick trip over for me. too much hassle and concerns over getting a positive and being stuck etc. Cheers

As i understand leaving Aus you will need an international vaccine certificate, a negative PCR test , a 7 day booking at an approved ASQ hotel in Phuket and the required Covid travel insurance. Prior to departure you will need to obtain another negative PCR and depending which State and when you are planning to return, maybe having to hotel or home quarantine ? Singapore Airlines are also flying To Phuket with a short Vaccine travel lane stopover in Singapore.

Best to postpone your trip until all these covid and quarantine madness are over.

I agree John, its madness.

Why bother for six days ...you could get stuck there and even if double jabbed could be positive...no point in going for six days at all ..maybe 6 weeks ...

yes I agree Gary.

no quarantine, i have done ASQ and Phuket sandbox. With Phuket sandbox you have to wait in room until you get results of the pcr test you take at airport. In my case about six hours till free to go where i wanted on Phuket

@Michael *******
ok, apologies .. if I've missunderstood seems there is NO quarantine in Phuket ... arrive and go where you like if your first test at the airport is negative. Why all the paperwork and applications then ?
Jenni ******
@Michael *******
and then another test on day 5 or 6 before you can leave Phuket?
Michael ********
@Jenni *****
ask the goverment, most SE Asia countries you have to apply to enter now.

@Michael *******
I will happily admit to giving out the wrong information. Its actually cleared it up for me as well 🙃
Michael ********
@Jenni *****
well mine was two weeks, but didnt you read the question. The writer wants to stay in Phuket.
Bobby ********
Jenny Butler. Someone is giving out incorrect information. There is no requirement to quarantine in Phuket when entering through Sandbox.

@Bobby *******
that's already out of date, with the new sandboxes opening in Krabi etc and apparently the approved route in is via Phuket...

However that been said, anyone coming for just 6 days and risking positive pcr tests with the rise in cases for those testing positive in the first week, is just bonkers. A 7 fold rise in the last month alone... Don't they do yoga retreats in Aus
Bobby ********
Lyndon Cunningham. The point I was making is that Phuket Sandbox is not quarantine. However, with the increase of positive tests I wouldn't be risking a short trip. In fact, I'd probably even be waiting a bit longer if it was an extended trip. Sandbox loses its appeal if you're going to end up in quarantine anyway.
Michael ********
Just come on the Phuket sandbox program not a problem

6 day trip with all the things you need PLUS if you test positive and then have to quarantine your trip could end up being longer and very expensive

I totally agree. its just not worth it to travel OS at the moment. Sad but true. We will have to stick to Australia trips for now. Darwin looks great for July 2022. fingers crossed

WA are like a separate country now, locked up tight! Darwin looks nice and tropical, we will plan a trip of 2 weeks and get out to Katherine to take a look.
Wayne *********
@Jenny *******
Yes WA has been certainly locked away, I was there for 23 months before i got out to get home to see my partner and family in Thailand. 2 weeks in the NT sounds great, you will enjoy it there.

@Jenny *******
Darwin sounds good for July escape the cold weather for some lovely weather and sight seeing

@Jenny *******
Plenty of nice places in WA if you could get there 🙂 I hope to get back into WA in February for a few months work then back to Thailand again.

6 days would hardly be worth it given the current restrictions

yes I think you are correct Brian.
Jenni ******
No, either fly direct to Bangkok to quarantine or direct to Phuket to quarantine. No transit allowed between Bankok and Phuket
Bobby ********
Jenni Gray. You're giving out mis-information. There is no requirement to quarantine if entering through Sandbox. Read and try to educate yourself.

In a hotel until you return a negative pcr and then can not leave Phuket for 7 days sounds like quarantine to me
Bobby ********
Jenni Gray. "Quarantine" means isolation. Sandbox you can travel over 500 square kilometres of island, visiting beaches, gyms, restaurants, shops, malls, swimming pools, pubs, visiting friends etc. If you think that is "isolation" I guess that's your prerogative. 😆

I rang flight centre and they knew nothing! I read what you read, sandbox seems very reasonable. I think I would have to transit via Bangkok as I cant see direct flights from Aus to Phuket as yet. I think perhaps during omicron its not a great time to travel OS, Its so bloody annoying ATM
Jenni ******
Bobby ********
Jenni Gray. Thank you. Did you miss the part that says "without having to undergo quarantine"? That actually means people arriving are not required to undergo quarantine!! 😆😆😆
Bobby ********
Jenni Gray. Can use Phuket sandbox. No requirement to quarantine
Mitchell *******
Otherwise, you are free to roam the island. 😁
Mitchell *******
Quarantine in the sense that you have to stay in your room until you get your airport negative test, and after that, you have to stay on Phuket for 7 days and your day
***
test also comes back negative.
Jenni ******
@Bobby *******
Phuket sandbox is quarantine
Bobby ********
Jenni Gray. It's not. No requirement to quarantine
Jenni ******
@Bobby *******
quarantine and mandatory pcr tests
