TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the concerns of expats regarding Thai immigration policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants express frustration about the requirement to visit immigration offices despite state-imposed restrictions for vulnerable populations, specifically those aged 70 and over. There are mentions of absurdity in the procedures, including the expectation to obtain extensions while potentially being put at risk. The discussions highlight growing discontent with the immigration process during the crisis, with calls for public awareness and criticism directed at the Thai immigration system.

Not much point Richard, adding "stay safe" when over 300 foreigners are being forced by immigration procedures and requirements to do anything but "stay safe"

we tourists and expats will not forget how Thai imm has treated us during this crisis and when it's over there will likely be a shit-tsunami of nut-kicking bad PR about how they endangered so many lives because of their inflexible and officious attitude. Utterly inexcusable.

I have to go tomorrow and I'm using an agent. When asking an imm offcr about my case beforehand, he was told I would be given a 28-day extension and have to return for the last 2? Even for Thailand this sounds absurd. Anyone know about this?

@Chris ********
That sounds weird. Maybe they mean 30 days first and then 7 if you need it?!

I thought I read that the state of emergency states that for citizens 70 years and over are banned for going out so how does that sit with having to visit an immigration office
Stephen *********************
70 or over they are still foreigners to the government. Foreigners must pay, especially the white ones.

You read wrong. Not banned.

It is still “recommended” or “suggested,” nationwide.

"If you’re in the UK and your leave expires between 24 January 2020 and 31 May 2020:

Your visa will be extended to 31 May 2020 if you cannot leave the UK because of travel restrictions or self-isolation related to coronavirus (COVID-19)."

I somehow doubt the Thai police would let an overstay slide because you didnt want to potentially infect an immigration officer. It will be handcuffs and straight to IDC.

Agreed but whats the alternative ? Go on an overstay ?!
