Good morning, UK citizen here...if I come in on a visa exemption for 30 days, get an extension for another 30 days, and then apply and get rejected for the further 30 days, giving me then 7 days to leave the country... what will the consequences of this? I have booked on a course which leads me into the overrun - that is why I need to stay a few extra days after the initial 60. TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen is seeking advice about the consequences of overstaying a visa in Thailand. They initially plan to enter Thailand on a visa exemption for 30 days, extend it for another 30 days, and then potentially apply for yet another extension. If their application is rejected, they will have 7 days to leave the country. Commentators suggest applying for a Tourist Visa before arrival, which offers a longer stay without the hassle of extensions. They also note that the visa exemption can only be extended once and caution about the airline's policies requiring onward travel documentation.

Just get a Tourist Visa. You can see what you need on the embassy/consulate website where you live.

Your school should have been helping you on which visa to apply for.

Why not get a Tourist visa from the UK? Avoid the hassle of extensions and border runs ??

i must be a very special course, if it is worth all these problems and they school can not provide any guidance to you.

as you can imagine - there is first the layer of Thai bureaucracy followed swiftly by the layer of Portuguese bureaucracy (could be worse than Thai?) - hence making it impossible to find out what I should do

I made the mistake earlier today, but I do not give up. According your profile you are from the UK, if that is correct you can apply on line at the Thai Embassy in London and when all approved you send your passport by mail to London. Even where you life, there must be a postman.

Okay, sorry.

Thank - I live in Portugal :)

Without a visa you also face the problems that you need onward travel, your airline company can refuse you boarding if you do not have a visa and do not have onward travel within 30 days.

Visa exempt can only be extended once and then you will have to leave Thailand anyway.

@Robert ******
Sorry but I have corrected it to 30.

Just be careful that attending a course whilst visa exempt is allowed. I stand corrected but as far as I know only attending a short course, sport event or conference is allowed. Long training periods need a visa.
Robert *******
paul made a small typ mistake, it is 30 plus 30 days.

70 days is perfect - 60 is just too short

the problem is the course I am on is very long and intense. Could I get a visa on arrival, then do a border run to Laos and get 30 days, and then extend for another 40 days? Thanks.
Paul *******
Deb Guy Lisa is correct. But you can now do a land border crossing and get 30 days more when you re enter Thailand. And then you can extend it at Immigration for 30 days more.

ah OK thanks

@Deb ****
It is correct, the 7 days you talk about is out of lenience of the immigration office and not an Extension of Stay. Some offices simply refuse to give these 7 days and stamp with text application not approved as a border run is cheaper for a new 30 day period than the cost of this stamp.

No, I don't believe that is correct thanks.

before you make your way to Thailand get the Single Entry Tourist Visa, gives you 60 days of stay, can apply for the 30 day Extension of Stay, total 90 days.
Robert *******
With the visa you are more flexible and is 90 days also allowed as it is well known that you can extend the first 60 days with another 30 days.

Thanks but this is a bit difficult for me as I live out in the sticks very far from a consulate.
