Hi,

Time to renew marriage visa. I thought finance proof was 40k per month for 3 months with Bank statements. Visa office just told my wife it’s 400k.

Confused.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the confusion surrounding the financial proof requirements for renewing a marriage visa in Thailand. The inquiries clarify that applicants must show either 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account for at least 2 months or proof of a monthly income of 40,000 THB for the past 12 months. Some community members suggest alternative options like obtaining a visa from consulates in Savannakhet or Ho Chi Minh City without proof of funds. Overall, the conversation highlights the complexity and variability in visa rules for expats.

Admins: Can't he go to Savannakhet and not worry about this requirement? Sorry if I'm confused.

Ah, I see. Thanks!

they could indeed go to the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao or Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam and get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage to a thai with no proof of funds, BUT they would have to bounce out and back in every 90 days on that visa for the year that it's valid..

Sorry to change the subject slightly but i just read online that a foreign woman marrying a Thai man does not have to show 400.000 bt in Bank. is this correct ??

5555 the Thai law is written by man

That is correct

You could get a 60 day visit thai family extension (without proof of funds) if you needed more time to get your finances in order

OR

You could go to the thai consulates in Savannakhet Lao or Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam and get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage. Those consulates will issue that visa without proof of funds.

On it you'd have to bounce out and back in every 90 days for the year to get a new 90 day stamp BUT you'd have a visa you can stay in thailand for 15 months on

Wow that’s a lot of running around. Thanks for explaining potential options.

The rules didn't change at all. Four consulates stopped issuing the income affidavit notary letters (the ones people used to get and say they get 40K baht a month income), for those countries the immigration office said IF you want to use monthly income you show proof of 12 months of international transfers into a thai bank account in your name only.

The only way you could have shown 3 months of 40K baht a month income would be to work here legally with a work permit and show your employment contract, your pay stubs, your withholding tax, etc,

Other than that the only other way to meet the proof of funds for an extensions based on marriage is bank 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for your extension

thanks I believe you. I simply found it tough to confirm through an official source. I appreciate your time today.

Here, I found this. It's a piss poor translation BUT it's the current police order in effect..

IF you are from one of the 4 countries that stopped issuing the income affidavit notary letters and you still want to use monthly income for an extension based on marriage to a thai as a means to meet the proof of funds you need to transfer a minimum average of 40K baht per month each month every month for the preceding 12 months before you apply for your extension.

IF you are using all banked money 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only you need to have that money seasoned 2 months before you apply for your extension.

me also, but the majority say it’s 12 months and I cannot find an absolute source to confirm.

They told me 3 months

@David *****
that is not correct and I would have them write the reason your application for your extension was denied and filed a written appeal immediately. That has to go to the division head office to be reviewed.

There is no requirement that you work here to show 40K baht a month in income from abroad when getting a yearly extension based on marriage. It's 400K baht banked money OR 40K baht a month in to your thai bank account in your name only.

The reason people who legally work her and are married to thais get yearly extensions based on marriage rather than employment IS if you lose your job you don't lose the extension like you do on a Non-B extension

@David *****
a Non Immigrant O visa based on being married to a Thai National has a little less requirements than a Non Immigrant B visa. Both visas allow you to work in combination with the Work Permit.

I showed 12 months of international transfers into my Thai bank account. They told me I could only use this method if I was working here. But why would someone be trying to get an O visa if they are already legally working here ?
