What are the chances of getting a 30-day extension after a one-day visa overstay in Thailand?

Please advise. My bf visa exempt expires today. Told him to check to make sure he thought 30 days exact. Nope. He's going to Chaengwattana tomorrow to do the extension. He will pay 500 baht overstay along with the 1900. What are the chances he won't get the 30 day extension and give him the 7 day bc of the one day overstay?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around a visa-exempt individual whose visa expires on a Sunday and plans to extend it the following day. Despite a one-day overstay, many commenters believe there should be no issue with obtaining a standard 30-day extension, as long as the extension is processed the next business day after the visa expiry, especially since no fines are typically imposed when the expiry falls on a day when immigration is closed.

Also, he'll be getting he's non-b soon so we won't have to deal with this anymore.

@Robert ******
Thank you so much. He's always done the extension at least 10 days prior but he didn't check. We are very relieved. Thanks everyone.

It is Sunday and Immigration is closed today. If he goes tomorrow he will get the Extension of Stay. The 30 days will be added on the date of the stamp in this case today. To others: Yes, it is better to go early but there is no fine if Immigration is closed and you come in on the first working day after the closed days.

Strange, if his visa exemt expires on a Sunday, should he not have payed immigration a visit last Friday for an extension?
Mark ********
But don't get stopped by the police before getting the extension....it can get very complicated

Thanks
@Mark *******
that is generous of Thai immigration😊

It is always better to avoid potential problems by extending before it technically expires, but as the dates fall on a day when immigration are closed, the date for extending is automatically extended to the next day that immigration are open

What
@Stephane ********
says above exactly, it's Sunday today. No problemo.
Stephane *********
if his visa really expires today, he's not overstaying as it's sunday, he'll be able to extend tomorrow without any kind of problem.

If his visa already expired he cant extend his visa since he doesnt have a visa tomorrow. So I say that immigration cant extend his visa simply because he doesnt have one. But maybe he gets a 7-days get out of Thailand stamp.

okay, good to know 👍

@Er**
, the rule is IF your admitted until stamp (from either a visa or a visa exempt entry) expires on a day the immigration office is closed (weekends or holidays) and you go the very next business day they are open you can get your extension like normal and are NOT charged for overstay.

You do get an "overstay fine waived" stamp but you get your extension without a problem.

@Tod ********
how? If his visa has expired already than he doesnt have a visa to extend when going to immigration so please tell me how his visa that does not exist can be extended?
Tod *********
@Erik **********
, that is totally false :(
Robert *******
Sorry to tell you, but what you say is not correct.

No chance. He will get the extension with no problem.

Avoid any police contact while on even that very small overstay.
