Can Indian nationals receive a 30-day extension on a visa-exempt entry in Thailand?

I am an Indian national, married to Thai wife. I entered Thailand through Bangkok airport immigrations on 60 days visa free entry. I am living in a village called Pasang, in Phayao District. My wife just called the Phayao Immigrations office to check about the additional 30 days extention, as we just had a baby girl 4 days ago. The immigration office straightaway refused. They say 30 days extension not available for Indian nationals, and that I should exit and re-enter to get another 60 days visa free entry. Is there any Indian national here who has received the 30 days extension..? The process is so confusing. Each immigration location tells a different story. Seems there are different rules for different nationalities. Wonder if they have a uniform process, or it works on their wimms & fancies..!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Indian national married to a Thai citizen is facing difficulties obtaining a 30-day extension of stay after entering Thailand on a visa-free basis. The local immigration office in Phayao has informed him that such extensions are not available, suggesting he must exit and re-enter Thailand for another 60 days visa-free entry. However, comments from other users indicate varying experiences; some mention successful extensions under certain conditions, while others advise applying for a Non-O visa or visiting different immigration offices that may have differing interpretations of the rules.

did he extend the 60 days visa exemption..? Or did he extend his visa for 30 days..?

The IO did confuse the old visa on arrival for indians with the new visa exempt for Indians. Under visa on arrival there is no 30 days extension possible. Under visa exempt its a standard option. Also for Indians

Get a 60 days visit Thai family extension.

That’s correct being an Indian, Nepal, Bangladesh,Pakistan and few more countries citizen you’ll get max extension for 7 days so it’s better leave country and apply non-o visa married to Thai from Thai Embassy in India on which you can enter for 90 days and then can extend it to 1 year subject to fulfillment of visa requirement

you are wrong, like many others who have responded to me. I have not entered Thailand on a Tourist Visa. I have entered Thailand on a visa exempt scheme, which allows me visa exempt for 60 days, and another 30 days on payment of 1900 baht. Please read every details in the Thai Govt document attached below..

Gomes As it is clearly written on the sheet you have just posted 30 day extension is at the 'discretion of the Immigration Officer.' You only have a definite answer once you apply.

But look at the other advice given already, that to mention your wife and child simply gives the IO an indication you are trying to game the Visa exempt scheme rather than apply for the correct visa.

Why don't you have a Non O if you're married?

@Phil *******
I think that’s the reason he’s been denied. Misuse of his current visa. He hasn’t applied for the correct visa. If he wanted an extension his wife shouldn’t have called and they shouldn’t have mentioned the child.

@Boran ****
Naa, Ive done extensions on visa exempt before and Im married with a kid.

@Phil *******
Sire it can be done. But usually if they know you have a child and wife they don’t like you coming in of VE of TV It happened to me in BKK once a while back. At that time I was coming back and forth a lot from Nepal so was using the TR exemptions system to visit my wife and kids. The moment I mentioned wife and kid he wrote in my PP above the current stamp a note to the effect I need to apply for. Non O which I had been on before. 👍

You should get the 30 days on Visa Exempt, it is a Tourist Visa that Indian passport holders cannot extend, seems to be a misunderstanding here by someone. You can also ger the 60 days, visit Thai family extension. Go to the office, don't call, and you will get your extension.

@Graham *****
maybe wife said "visa" to immigration instead of exempt entry.
Graham ******
@Lynnette ******
exactly hence go in person
Lynnette *******
@Graham *****
yes. Often people on the exempt entry say they've got a visa when they haven't, and then they don't get correct info.

@Lynnette ******
terminology is key in law, it's not pedantic
Lynnette *******
@Graham *****
I know it's not pedantic. It's essential people know if they have a visa or not. If anyone wanting exempt entry and heads to "visa on arrival" they will be refused.
