TLDR : Answer Summary
The ongoing discussion highlights concerns about the Thai government's visa extension policies in light of COVID-19. Comments reflect frustration that the measures only assist tourists who arrived after March 1st, leaving earlier arrivals without adequate support. Many commenters express skepticism about the effectiveness of these policies, suggesting they are poorly planned and fail to address the real difficulties faced by foreigners in Thailand during the pandemic.

Typical Govt offering related to the serious problems surrounding us. Dither, offer something that does not even come close to solving the situation... If fact the offering only seems to make matters worse.

READ the way it was spoken.

They did NOT say tourists who entered after March 1st

They DID say people who entered on tourist visas after March 1st

Those sentences have completely different meanings

This COULD happen - but based on several months worth announcements - the likelihood of anything beneficial happening for foreign tourists or long stay foreigners is nil.

They'll be scratching their heads for a week on why the huge queues sre still the same.. then take another week to "consider" a new "proposal"

Would this include those that entered ON March 1? Or just after (March 2)?

They could just grant automatic extensions and have us pay on the way out the door 1900 baht per month, or remove the punitive aspects of overstay and just collect our cash when we leave. Things can be done which still get them all the cash and still help us.

I wish I believed that. This is awful. This is what they were having us wait pins and needles for?

Now THIS is a big April Fool's joke. I'm not surprised. Why would they waive EVERYONE? Too much baht to walk away from if they did that. 😂

This doesn't cover the people who have real problems. When will they address that?

Yeah this only covers tourist visas and they will not need to extend until the end of April so in other words it will be completely pointless in terms of what they say they are doing.

Seeing how many tourists use visa exemption , it will make little impact to the queues. Anyone after March 1 can get a standard extension anyway. So it fixes nothing in regards to virus extensions.

It is good that at least they are getting this. I don't begrudge them it. I am just very frustrated with the inadequate measures of this government. Good luck with whatever you are dealing with in this time.

you’re implying that people who arrived after March 1st don’t have real problems? We all have problems right now, just different ones.

Arrived after 1st of March huh?

So only those who arrived after Covid issue started.
