Looking for recommendations for SIM card/ cell service. I’ll be in Thailand (Bangkok, Phuket) for two months. Have an iPhone 11. Thanks for any input.

TLDR : Answer Summary
For a two-month stay in Thailand, the recommended SIM card providers are AIS, Dtac, and True. These can be purchased at the airport or local shops, though buying from an airport may lead to overpriced and limited options. It is suggested to buy a standard SIM card (around 49 Baht) from a shop rather than a tourist SIM, as the latter can be expensive and may not offer great value for extended stays. For best options, consider visiting a 7/11 or a carrier store to download their respective apps for better deals on mobile packages.

For a 30 day stay only, I would imagine the airport deals are about as good as you're going to get if you need a phone for immediate use on exiting the airport. It's a bit inconvenient having 1gb for only 24 hours then having to negotiate a short term plan.

At the airport in Thailand, no store/stall will sell you a normal Thai SIM card (usually 49 Baht) - which is the cheapest option. I know because I went to every store/stall.

They (which includes

store) all sell Tourist SIM packages only which are over-priced for people who want to stay for 30 days or longer in Thailand.

You can go to the DTAC store at the airport and ask for a 49 Baht Happy Tourist SIM card, which they sell for 99 Baht. That will give you 1GB of mobile data for 24 hours. Download the DTAC app. After the first 24 hours, you can get a 30-day mobile data package for 199 Baht, using their app.

Good luck.

They sell a different (tourist SIM card) at the airport. Once your one month subscription ends, you will have worse choices than a normal AIS SIM card. If it’s no emergency, I would buy a SIM card in the city. But ask for a normal one. Not sure they sell tourist SIM cards in the city as well.

Best option is buying an empty SIM card from a shop for like 20-40 baht then downloading the carriers app and buying the package that way. The carriers shops have limited options and in my experience they try and sell you the most overpriced things and intentionally hide lower priced options. I recommend AIS with the MyAIS app.

If you go phuket it s a Farang area , all is expensive here,

AIS is the better option , phuket look like more a scam area for tourist

I don t like to stay long time here 3 or 4:days

But for sure if you need sim card AIS or true are the best deal!

I hope you can leave phuket soon

Be very careful to scam abd cops if it s your first time here!

If you go Bangkok , wear a mask for breath because air quality is very very poor and can make erious dommage on your health!

You can check air quality map!

Stay safe

As Stuart says... But also be careful at the airports, I've heard of several occasions people buying what they thought were longterm deals and they only lasted a few a days in reality.

Get a sim and top up, install the app and browse the deals... Take a deal shorter or less than need, you will be bombarded with offers to extend or improve your deal....

Any of the big 3 will do you. AIS, Dtac or True. They’ll sell you one at the airport but you’ll find cheaper/better packages at a shopping mall
