Proud DTV holder here! Just arrived! What cell phone plan do you all recommend? I’ll be here at least six months. Looks like AIS requires a work permit but DTAC/True are cool without? Tips?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around recommendations for cell phone plans in Thailand for expats who do not have a work permit. AIS is frequently mentioned as a favored option, with users highlighting that it does not require a work permit for their services. Various users share their experiences, pointing out that AIS offers good value—such as plans with unlimited data and calls for affordable rates. DTAC is also recommended for its versatility and competitive pricing. True has received mixed reviews, particularly concerning customer service. Overall, prepaid plans seem to be the most popular choice among expats.

There's websites that show coverage maps for the main providers so you can check exactly what the coverage is like for each in your area. They can vary quite a bit.

DTAC has 1 month / 6 month / 12 months plans. I just bought mine. Visit any of their offices and bring your passport (is mandatory, as they need to register the line under your name).

I have AIS for 2 years as a normal stamp tourist. So you definitely don't need work permit.

AIS doesn't require a work permit for the plan I'm on.... they had several choices. Maybe you're looking at postpaid vs prepaid plans? I know several people with AIS and no work permit.

Mine is 399 baht for 100gb a month at their fastest speed. They had several plans cheaper as well.

AIS for sure. I canceled my True. Both privat and for company. Customer service at True can be really horrible. Just read the Google reviews

AIS doesn’t require work permit. Go into an AIS shop ask for a “Net Marathon “ prepaid plan. Less than 1K for 6 months with 100gb/month

I have AIS, no work permit required. Perfect service everywhere. I have unlimited data and calls in Thailand for very cheap, I remember being shocked at the bill, can't remember how much exactly, but I paid around 2 or 3k baht for 2 cell phones, for 6 months.

The cost of one month cell service back in the US gets me 2 phones for 6 months here.

AIS pre payment sim, just do an auto top up and recurring data plan unlimited internet and you can choose the max speed (picture is price for 30 days)

I have an AIS pay as I go plan. I top up with ฿300 and that lasts me for a month. Honestly, that's all I need from a phone plan. I have all the data I need and I use my phone to tether.
