What are the bank statement requirements for visa applications at various embassies?

Aug 27, 2024
Can we create a list about how many months of bank statements each embassy requires?

Seen so far:

Ho Chi Minh: 6 months

Yangon: 1 month

Vientiane: 3-6 months

Phnom Penh: 1 month

Hanoi: 6 months

EU: 1 month (Madrid 3)

US: 1 month

Jakarta: 1-2 months

This is undocumented by the embassies and will be a major reason why people get rejected. Many don't keep 500k cash in their bank account but have it invested into stocks, bonds, etc instead. Since broker account statements are not accepted, this rule can be a blocker.

TLDR : Answer Summary
This discussion aims to compile the various bank statement requirements for different embassies when applying for a visa to Thailand. The users have shared their experiences, noting the number of months of statements required, which varies greatly across locations. Key details indicate that Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi require 6 months, while places like Phnom Penh and US embassies often ask for only 1 month. Others, such as Vientiane, have fluctuated between 3 to 6 months recently. The community highlights that these requirements can complicate the visa process, especially for those with funds invested elsewhere, rather than liquid cash in bank accounts.

Jakarta here, just got approved. DTV medical tourism visa, I was required to submit two months of finances. I combined a bunch of my accounts since my funds were spread out.

They want a minimum of 3 months worth of 500K parked in there. I confirmed with them. Even if you can provide 6 months or 12 months worth of statements, your application will be rejected if the minimum balance across at least the last 3 months prior to applying does not equal or exceed 500,000 Thai Baht.

When i applied Ho chi minh, i only have 100k in my account and I transferred the rest 400k from my friend just 1 week before i applied. They didn’t complain about that. They just need six months statement and closing balance.

In Poland - current balance. I've had money in my account for a long time, but my bank doesn't provide statements in English, and they requested an English version. I transferred money to another bank account and provided a statement a minute after.

If they ask for this are they checking you have had 500k baht in a bank account for 6 months or are they checking your income?

6 months statements does not necessarily mean 6 months of continous 500K in the account.

Here's what I've been able to gather:

HCM: 6 months statement, but 500K only needs to be verifiable and in your account prior to making the application.

Vientiane and Savannakhet: 6 months of money in the account (can be reduced with help of an agent) but if applying in person, it must be 6 months. 3 isn't enough.

Phnom Penh: no clear amount, anything from a week to a month seems fine.

Panjai Deepankaew Jakarta embassy only asked for 1 month bank statement.

If you are going to transfer the money a few days before I think it would be ok but I would email them. If it's a working day they will email you back with answers in a few hours they are quick to respond.

Canberra Australia- proof of balance on 1 day was enough.

My opinion is the exact requirements may vary even within the same embassy.

I gave them my most recent bank statement, which was issued 2 months prior to application.

They requested updated statement which has not been issued by bank yet, so gave them a proof of balance of the day they requested. I hope it's good enough!

there have to be some barriers to entry or it's just a free for all.

I don't think it's a great deal of money to ask for you to have to get a 5 year visa

When you get approval how long you have to go there? For instance let's say I apply now and get it approved in a couple of weeks but want to go to Thailand in May next year, is that possible?

Hi
@Manu ***
, sorry I don't fully understand your question... Do you mean is there a time limit from when you get approved and go to Thailand?

If I am understanding correctly, the answer is you have until your DTV expires, eg 5 years.

So you can apply now, get approved and decide to go whenever or as many times as you want to in the 5 years.

Just an update: for Laos, 3 months, rather than 6, are required now. Better than 6 but still far longer than pretty much anywhere else where 1 month or even 1 day is sufficient.

Yes for HCM, I think you can in theory place the funds in the account that day though 1 month is better. They do need 6 months of statements though.

Ho Chi Mihh told me - 6 months of statements and a separate statement showing closing balance of 500K. Not necessary to keep 500K throughout the 6 month period. For Laos - it is necessary.
