Hello all. I am new to this visa malarkey. Came on a 60 tourist visa. Just extended it a week ago for a further 30 days. What is my best option to get another visa for at least 60 to 90 days. Best place to apply. I am In Chiang Mai. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on obtaining a visa extension after a recent 60-day tourist visa followed by a 30-day extension. Suggestions include doing a border bounce to Myanmar from Chiang Mai for another 30 days, which can then potentially be extended for 30 more days, or traveling to Vientiane, Laos to apply for a Single Entry Tourist Visa, which can provide a fresh 60-day visa with a 30-day extension option.

Your other option, other than Laos, is to do a border bounce at Mae Sai / Tachileik (Myanmar). This you can do in one day from Chiang Mai- 4h40 on Green Bus each way, 319B for a VIP seat. $10 to Myanmar immigration for the bounce. This will only get you 30 days but you can extend for another 30 at immigration in Chiang Mai, so if you only need 60 this would be an option and is quicker than going to Laos. You can do this (land border visa exempt entry) only twice per calendar year.

I believe you would have to do a visa run and leave the country.

Not sure if you'd be able to apply for a fresh 60 days but you can leave and reenter for an extra 30 days (think is twice by land enter and unlimited by air)

Exactly what he said ^^ you will get 60 days in Laos and then you can apply for an extension again for 30 days.

@M*
you get the visa on arrival at the border, no pre-planning required. If you have a passport photo that would be great, if you don't it's an extra 100B I think. The official Laos visa fees are in USD and it is cheaper to pay in USD- it is $35 for me, I think the same for US citizens, or you can pay 1,500B but that is more than $35.

sorry dumb question: is the Laos visa something I have to do any pre-planning for, or can I handle that when I arrive in Laos ?

You just need the visa application form, two photos, your passport, and photocopies of your passport photo page, Laos visa and Laos entry stamp. Plus 1,000B for the visa fee. The visa application form you can get at the consulate when you get there and fill it out. Bring a pen. You can get the photocopies done at the consulate for a slightly inflated price, (nothing crazy) or do them in advance to save a few baht.

What Paperwork are you referring to excaptly Mo

You submit the paperwork the morning the first day and then pick up the afternoon the second day, so you have to stay over one night minimum. Realistically if you are flying from Chiang Mai, with the flight timings, you have to fly the night before so two nights. If you are flying from Bangkok there is a 6AM flight that I think you could get to the consulate that morning.

Assuming you have all the right paperwork, money etc., can you get a 60-day single entry on the spot or would you have to plan to stay over in Loas?
Ivan ************
The easiest way to do this is to fly (Air Asia or Nok Air) to Udon Thani. It's a cheap internal flight, and then there are minibuses that take you direct from UTH airport to the Laos border for 200B in 1hr.
