Hi everyone! I am currently in Chiang Mai on a Tourist Visa which expires at the end of the month. Can someone share with me the options I have to extend my stay here, and how I should go about it? Thanks in advance 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user in Chiang Mai seeks advice on extending their Tourist Visa, which expires soon. Community members suggest applying for a 30-day extension of stay for tourists, and provide details on the necessary documents and processes involved. They also mention the possibility of a 60-day extension due to COVID-19, which is available until May 29, and emphasized that the individual should apply at the local immigration office.

She can not get 60 days before she normally extended first!

In case you arrived recently in the country (<60days) and did not extend your Tourist Visa yet then you can apply for 30 days normal extension.

If done then somewhere in May just before the new expiry date of your 30 day stamp (and before May 29) apply for 60 day Extension of Stay due to Covid-19

So for now you can extend for 90 days in total. We dont know what happens after May 29 if they continue with the Covid extensions

For your first 30 day normal extension You bring photocopy of

-Passport profile page

-Visa sticker and entry stamp

-TM6 white slip back & front

TM7 form is at immigration waiting for you to fill out

Bring headshot photo and 1900tbh, dress decent and all be fine

Covid 60 day extension. Go to your immigration office.

Come to Chiang Rai you will get it.

60 day Covid extensions are available until May 29 and will likely be extended again if international travel restrictions aren’t lifted.

I originally entered from Bangkok - would it be a problem to apply for any extensions for my TR from Chiang Mai instead?

@Janelle ****
not if you're staying IN Chiang Mai it wouldn't be. What you're not gonna do is use an address that's outside the area that office serves.

You're on a tourist visa, and as such tourists tour, so you could stay anywhere in thailand and use that immigration office to get your extension

thanks for letting me know! That makes sense 🙂 glad to hear that phew!

@Janelle ****
I believe you have to apply for extensions at the closest immigration office to your residence.

@Shane *********
Do you know if the 60 day extension is available on both the TR and STV?
Shane **********
@Katie ******
it is an extension for all visas that have exhausted their extensions.
Benjamin ******
@Shane *********
NOT for the STV. For the STV, ONLY the 90 day extension of stay based on STV can be purchased.
Shane **********
@Benjamin *****
Covid extensions are granted when all the visa extensions have been used, STV are 90 day visas with two 90 day extensions, if these are exhausted and you are unable to leave the Kingdom a 60 day Covid extension may be granted for 1900 Baht. In the case of STV this wouldn’t happen until around July.
Tod *********
@Shane *********
there are NO confirmed reports of even a single person on an STV who got a covid extension :( <- that would be ZERO reports.

That's because anyone who entered on an STV would not have used their two 90 day extensions yet.. Careful broad brushing that "anyone" can get a covid extension :)
Shane **********
@Tod ********
I never said anyone could get a Covid extension, where did you get that from?
Tod *********
I stand corrected
@Sh***
you pointed out that AFTER a person on an STV used all their regular allowed extension they would be able to get a covid extension BUT that'd only be if the covid extension program is extended past May 29th :)
Benjamin ******
@Shane *********
For the STV, the OP should be able to stay until September (2x 90 day extensions). The 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 are optional extensions, and immigration may reject them. I expect an immigration officer to reject a person on an STV applying for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, and if the OP pushes it, to get a hard "extensions of stay rejected" stamp in the passport.

@Benjamin *****
thanks for the information! I am on 60 day TR, so I suppose that I need to apply for TR extension first before the COVID extension?
Tod *********
@Janelle ****
you'll find that out when you slog on over to the immigration office by the airport and apply for your extension.

MOST offices are making people on tourist visa entries to take their "regular" 30 day extension first and then allowing them to apply for the 60 day covid extension when that runs out

AND at the offices that do allow you to go straight onto the 60 day covid extension they start it the day you apply so you lose any days you have left on your current entry stamp.

Seeing as the immigration office is closed until Friday the 16th, I'd slog on over Monday the 19th and see what's what..

thanks for the information, I will see what they allow me to do based on my TR visa. Thanks 🙏🏻

Generally yes, but it depends on the immigration office

Copied from another group

A copy of your passport data page (signed),

A passport photo,

Proof of filing a TM30,

A copy of your departure card (TM6) (signed)

A copy of your latest entry stamp (signed)

A filled out TM7 (application form for extensions) - the form doesn’t have a space for your email or phone number but just write it on the back (page 2).

A filled out STM2 (acknowledgement that you understand the rules for overstaying)

A filled out “I don’t want to leave because of Covid form” - I have no idea if it has an official name or number.

And 1,900 baht.

thanks sooooo much - let me check out what all these different documents are 😦

for more clarification about the forms I would post the question on the visa thread section (its at the top of the forum selection) of thaivisa.com and in time that subforums moderator, ubonjoe, will answer.

We need more information about you.

How old are you? What country are you from? You have several options but we need more information about you.

You may have to get a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism, which will give you another 30 days to stay in Thailand. If the immigration office is still selling it, you can get a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19

@Astrid *********
wow thanks for such detailed information, really appreciate it. for the first 30 days extension, no TM30 document is needed?
Astrid **********
@Janelle ****
🙏☺

According TM30 .. its your landlords duty to register TM30 which is proof you stay on that address. You can ask if they did. If not they should or you can give them the paperform to sign and bring to Immigration.

If landlord or accommodation filled you in the online system as they should .. you should have no problem at Immigration.

They will see it in their computer and you make sure you fill out correct same address on your TM7 application form.

Note you can not extend at an Immigration office outside the province you registered in.

thanks for answering my question!! could you kindly link me to a post that has the accurate list of documents? I don’t be looking at something out dated 😦

@Janelle ****
sure, if you transfer 2,000 baht to my account I will use the search function on your behalf 👍
Shane **********
@Darren ******
for 6000 Baht you can get an agent to do the whole process including the 1900 Baht visa fee.

maybe I believe in doing things yourself instead of expecting others to do it for you? You want someone to do something for you, like an agent, then you pay them.

Hi everyone, kindly chill - no one is obligated at all to do anything for me 🙏🏻 I simply am grateful for whatever info I am able to gather 👍🏻
Bobby ********
Janelle Lee. Go to the immigration office and you might find some very helpful people (there's sometimes farang helpers out the front at CM) who will tell you EXACTLY what you will need. My advice is DO NOT listen to those you say "use an agent". It is a total and unnecessary waste of money! 😃
