Hi. I know this was discussed here before but I cannot find it 🙈 please how is it with visa extension? I stayed first 30 days, then I extended for 30 days and I know I need to cross the border now. I'm in Chiang Mai. Can you please tell me what is the cheapest option? If I take bus/train? And do I have to go to embassy in that country in order to be able to stay 30 more days in Thailand afterwards? Thank you in advance🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in Chiang Mai asks about extending their visa after having already stayed for 60 days (30 initial and 30 extended). They seek advice on the cheapest border crossing options and whether they need to visit an embassy to obtain another 30-day stay upon reentry. Commenters suggested crossing into Myanmar at Mae Sai-Tachiliek, where they could receive another 30-day visa exemption by land, but noted that this option is limited to two entries per calendar year. The user later confirmed their successful crossing and inquired about extending the new stamp.

They EXTEND your stay, ADDED to your current stay. Not 30 days from day of application.

@Robert ******
yes but the other 30 days count from the date i extend it right? Thats why i would like to do it the last day
Robert *******
You can do it in Chang Mai any you want, it is added to your current stay, so you don't have to wait till the last day.

@Robert ******
perfect, thanks! And can I do it the last day that is stated in stamp? Or must be few days before?
Robert *******
Yes, you can.

You could go to the Mae Sai - Tachiliek border wtih Burma and get another 30 day visa exempt entry stamp. Remember though you can only get TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year.

Take the green bus to Mae Sai.

yep I saw that, and there is no official limit to them for russians BUT some borders won't let them bounce at all

I think she's Russian and the rules may be different for them (bilateral treaty), I don't think they have the 2 per year by land limit. Can they do Mae Sai?

, may be you can answer this..

I was planning to go to mae sai soon, but i already have two 1 month stamp: one on arrival by air in november 2017 and one recently by land from malaysia..

Is that ok for me to go for one more one month stamp by land or already not? Thank you

@Robert *******
It has to be a pristine 10 dollar bill but you can make them take it if you push ;)
Ivan ************
I've always paid with $10. A few years ago they usually needed persuading on this but I did it twice in 2017 and they took it with no questions.

Myanmar has always refused my $10. No doubt because it is rather cheaper. I don't bother trying US$ any more.

@Mich****
if you are really short on cash, the official Myanmar border fee is $10. $10 is less than 500THB. You can change the money here in Chiang Mai, or in Mae Sai just by the border (there is a gold shop that does it on the left). Saves you 170B or so.

, the fee at the Myanmar border is 500 baht. The bus has two seat options, regular at the back (cheaper) and the first 4 rows are larger VIP seats at a slightly higher price.

You can book you bus tickets online at the link Tod provided above and then go pay at 7-11 within a couple of hours... cost for return ticket is around 600 baht. You can take the 8 am bus to Mae Sai and 2:30 pm bus back. That gives you about 2 hours to take the song theaw to the border (15 baht each way), stamp in and out, grab a quick lunch and back to the bus station.

There will be others doing the same run so just follow them. Let me know if you have any questions.

so far this looks like the best option. I need something cheap..so if i cross the border by bus, they give me a stamp and then I have 30 days right? Do you know how much does it cost? ...And later with this I can extend it again in Promenada in CM for another 30 days? Thanks :)
