Total newb question from Chiang Mai: quickest/easiest way to get a fresh Visa by land? I came in on a 30 day visa on arrival. I extended it 30 days and that ends in a few days.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in Chiang Mai seeks advice on the quickest way to obtain a new visa after extending their 30-day visa on arrival. Suggestions include making a brief trip to Myanmar for a 30-day visa exempt entry (extendable by another 30 days) or visiting the consulate in Vientiane, Laos for a 60-day tourist visa (also extendable by 30 days). The conversation clarifies that the visa on arrival is not applicable for certain nationalities, including Americans.

Going into Myanmar and straight back into Thailand is a visa exempt - 30 days and can extent another 30.

Going to a consulate such as Vientiane in Laos - 60 day tourist visa and can extent 30 days.

Forget about the visa on arrival thing, you can’t and will never use that. Only for certain nationalities and your profile says American.

Sort of but it's not a visa on arrival, it's a visa exempt stamp, yes it gives you 30 days that can be extended for another 30

the 30 exempt entry is the same as the "visa on arrival" (like I got previously) and can be extended for another 30 days for a total of 60 right?

If you just want another 30 day visa exempt entry then follow Bradleys advice. If you want a single entry tourist visa then Vientiane Laos is your best bet
