Can I maintain my non-immigrant O visa status in Thailand if I leave for a job in the US?

I'm in Thailand on a non-immigrant O visa based on marriage and my next annual extension of stay will be in about 5 months. I may have an opportunity to head back to the US to bank away some money on a job there that could last indefinitely. I fully intend to reside in Thailand ultimately, but I'm wondering if there's a way to maintain my status as a non-immigrant spouse in Thailand or do I have to start the whole process again?

Just curious if anyone has had the same experience.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about maintaining their non-immigrant O visa status in Thailand while considering a job opportunity in the US, which could be long-term. It's mentioned that purchasing a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand is essential to keep the visa valid. If the user returns before their extension ends, they can apply for a new extension as usual; if not, they would lose their status and need to restart the process.

Before you leave, you can purchase a re-entry permit so your extension isn't made invalid by exiting Thailand.

If you return before the end of your extension you can apply for a new extension as normal.

If you do not return before the end of your extension, then it's gone and you must start over.
