We want to extend our visa for another month do we just go to the immigration office as we have done previously? We arrive in Chiang Mai on the 30 January. In previous years we were given 60 day visas on arrival, we only got 28 days this time and need to extend until 22 February. What do we need please

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (OP) inquires about extending their visa for another month in Chiang Mai, noting they received a 28-day visa instead of the expected 60 days. Commenters clarify that the visa-on-arrival for most westerners is typically 30 days, with an option for a 30-day extension available at local immigration offices. They provide locations for the immigration offices in Chiang Mai and stress the importance of bringing proof of TM30 filing from their accommodation.
For any future visa questions, itโs important to state your nationality. There are different rules for different nationalities. Visa-on-Arrival (VOA) is different from Visa-Exempt.
I think you're mistaken, there never was "60 day on arrival" for any country ๐
People from western countries got 30 days (which is really only 29 days western count ๐ฎ ) and you can get ONE 30 day extension at the immigration office that serves the area where you stay for 1900baht
In Chiang Mai you can apply for the 30 day extension at either the main immigration office by the airport OR at the immigration office in Central Festival Mall
There is no reason to wait until your current stamp runs out as the 30 days is added to your current expiration date
This is a list of the things you are likely to require to get the extension up there.
The offices up there are pretty hard on people having proof of the TM30 being filed on you where you're staying so ask your hotel to print out the confirmation for you
