Should my spouse apply for a DTV at the same embassy as I did in Taipei or is a local application advisable?

So last week I got my DTV from Taipei. I think I might be one of those “complicated” applications alluded to in another’s post 🙂.

I will make a separate post in a day or so to explain why my particular circumstances caused some challenges for the staff at the embassy (needless to say, everything regarding my application was totally above board), and what I learnt from the experience, which may help others.

But that is not what this post is about.

Now I have my DTV, I need to sort out one for my wife. And my question is rather simple.

It looks like the spousal requirements are very simple, but what I don’t know is whether there is any benefit in the spouse applying to the same embassy/consulate that the primary DTV holder did. I went to Taipei from Thailand because of the good reputation of the embassy there, but perhaps now I have mine, my wife can get hers more locally.

Anyone with experience of this?

Additionally, when one is applying for a spousal DTV at a later date than the primary, is a new (more up to date) bank statement needed, or can she just use the same one that I did?

TIA.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether their spouse should apply for a DTV (Dependent Visa) at the same embassy where they received theirs, citing a good experience at the Taipei embassy. They want to know if it is beneficial to apply at the same location and whether a new bank statement is required for the spouse's application. Comments suggest that applying at the same Taipei embassy is favorable, and experiences shared indicate that dependent visas can be issued simultaneously. It is recommended to consult the embassy directly regarding the best application option.

I suggest you email the Taipei embassy to see what is your best option to apply for your wife.

You will not be able to do it locally in Thailand. It will have to be outside of Thailand.

Just curious my Anonymous participant 😮

What was the reason you didn't take your foreign wife with you and apply for a DTV for her at the same time <- like you can do a walk up consulates? 😕

As mentioned previously, due to other commitments, we were unfortunately not able to travel together at the same time.

Anonymous participant sorry didn't notice it, I'd say get back ASAP and apply now for one.

Especially if you wanna use a walk up, no appt needed, apply in person consulate.

Unless I'm mistaken they go online with the eVisa system Nov 19.

I got my dependent DTV last week from Taipei. It was issued on the same day as my husbands. You could have applied for both at the same time. I can't comment on wether she could do it more locally, but I provided a copy of the stamp on my passport to prove I was in the country I was applying from, so I don't think you can do it on her behalf.

- thanks. Unfortunately we were not able to travel at the same time, so applying together was not an option. Appreciate the confirmation that she has to apply herself. Makes sense.

Suggest you go back to Taipei ASAP.

They approved your DTV.

Why mess with success at Taipei?

Ok so my first question would be, why would I need to go back to Taipei? Are you saying that my wife doesn’t have to travel at all, and that I can simply go there with her passport and apply on her behalf?

My second question would be, did you actually read the post? I’m asking for people who have experience with applying for spousal DTV’s. Can you please share yours?

Anonymous participant I wish you success wherever you go. Good Luck 🍀

And I follow and read many posts about getting the DTV visa on this forum and on Thai Visa Advice.

I'll NOT reply further. It's obvious from your reply you are looking for the answer you wish to find.

James - no, I'm simply looking for concrete answers to the questions I asked, if they are available. Do I really have to spell it out for you again? For me, applying in Taipei with its track record of fast turnarounds was the best choice, and it worked out exactly as anticipated, and fitted in well with other travel plans. My wife was not able to travel at the same time, and she would ideally prefer to go somewhere more local. It's not rocket science, and it doesn't need snarky responses from people who are incapable of actually answering a simple question.

Whatever happened to your (gratefully received) promise of 'NOT' [sic] replying further?

Anonymous participant Just fly back to Taipei and have your wife apply for it on the back of yours.

Very kind of you. Thank you. But can you answer the questions or not? I doubt I’m the only person who will be in this position, so it would be useful for the community here to clear this up.

Is it true what you are implying, and that a spousal DTV can be applied for by the main holder, without the spouse having to travel to the embassy from which it is being applied for?

Anonymous participant you should have obtained the DTV visa for your spouse immediately after you got it approved by Taipei. Easy to do. They approved your DTV visa... why open up for questions from another Thai Embassy or Consulate about getting it for your spouse ?
