Hi all I’m applying for DTV in Hong Kong and my original work contract from 2018 states it’s an in office role

I have a letter stating my role is FULL TIME remote worker

Should I request a new updated employment contract and submit both contracts

Original and new updated contact to give concrete evidence

As my employer has approved officially for me be full time remote worker

I have been for quite some time now however I never got a new contract of employment

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is applying for a Digital Visa (DTV) in Hong Kong and questions whether to submit their original 2018 employment contract, which states an in-office role, along with a new letter confirming their full-time remote worker status. Community members advise contacting the embassy for specific requirements, suggesting that some embassies may accept a letter confirming remote work, while others may require it to be stated in the contract. They recommend submitting both the original and an updated contract if possible, alongside a letter from the employer detailing the change in work status.

hey, I see you’re still going through your application. In my opinion only, if you want to request a new contract it wouldn’t hurt, I would probably still attach the old contract just in case it’s useful for the embassy to know it’s not a new job?

since I presume asking for a new contract will have updated dates of your employment.

I suppose you could ask your employer if they’d be willing to back date the contract, but typically they would sign with the current date of signing.

I also think the embassy understands the nature of peoples job changes, so long as you can prove officially that the nature of the job has changed. If you want to ask your employer to state that in your letter you can, (with a signature, preferably stamp chopped with a company letterhead).

Maybe something like “that xx is employed at xx company has changed the nature of their role from full time in office to remote work full time from date DAY-Month-YEAR” and this will remain a permanent arrangement”

idk.. something like that

feel free to re-word, I’d just make sure to add your name, and that the employer made the approved change from x date and if you want to state that there’s no end date to that arrangement.

I also understand you want to submit all your documents right the first time, however I’m not really sure what the impact is? It’s quite common for the embassy to request more documents since the instructions are so vague and this DTV is new for people applying and the embassy.

Good luck!

Is there a reason why you are going through the Hong Kong embassy versus other ones?

I see. Was just asking, because it feels like people are having an easier time with Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, all of which are closer. However, if you were already planning on going to HK, that makes sense.

I can qualify for non o parent guardian but i furfill all requirements for DTV and then I can apply for husband to follow as spouse

My daughter is getting Ed visa

@Toni *******
- Also, DTV might be longer than non O parent for guardian (in case your child is a teen and would finish international school in less than 5 years)

When I applied, I submitted a brand new contract, stating I was working remotely. The contract has been active for 3 years but the updated one I sent to the HK consulate was only 4 days old.

It had digital signatures too, as I wasn't going to wait for a contract to be mailed here from Europe 😅

You should contact Hkg Embassy for what they require as embassies approval differ. A letter stating remote worker status will be suffice in some embassies, others may require it stated in the contract.

Some embassies are like that. I have seen a successful post from someone who applied at HKG. Search the threads.
