Right I'm confused after briefly reading something else.

I am married to a Thai and have a Multi Entry Non O Visa which expires 8th January 2019. Now do I apply for the same as I have now or apply for an extension of stay. And what documents do I need to provide? Any links would be appreciated.

Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Thai expatriate married to a Thai national is seeking clarification on whether to apply for a new Multi Entry Non O Visa or to extend their current visa, which is set to expire soon. Community members discuss the pros and cons of both options, highlighting that applying for a new visa may not require proof of funds compared to extending the existing visa, which has specific financial requirements. The conversation also addresses travel schedules, the required documents for an extension, and the timing of applications.

I would say given the needs of the O/P that a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa from a thai consulate is by far superior to a yearly extension of stay from the immigration office.

First off, they can get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa without proof of funds or banking a single baht in this country,

Secondly, even though he has a valid Non-O now he'd need 2 visits to the immigration office to get a yearly extension of stay due to 30 day the under consideration period for the yearly extension. AND they'd have to buy a re-entry permit after they finally got the extension of stay.

The costs work out to 5000baht for the year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa from the consulate (which lets them come and go for a year getting stamped in for 90 days each time versus 5700baht for the year extension and a multiple re-entry permit.

**EDITED** thanx David :)

you can apply for an extension of stay when you have 30 days or less left on your entry stamp (so yes, when you come in and get stamped in for 90 days you have to wait 2 months before you can apply)..

when I return to Thailand using my Non O visa do I have to wait for say 60 days to apply for the extension so on my 90th day my Non O visa would lapse and extension start OR can I apply the day I arrive back?

you are correct, I'm wrong :O

Seeing as he already has a valid Non-O visa he'd ONLY need to make two trips to the immigration office, once to apply and once to get the extension inked in a month later.

Well spotted (y)

Todd I am confused by your second part. He said he has a Non O (assume based on marriage). Cant he therefore get the extension (2 trips to immigration).

The choice is yours, apply for the 1 year extention of stay or another Non Imm O multi entry visa

@Ja**
given your entry/exit schedule I'd say you're WAY better off just pulling another year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage from one of the thai consulates that will issue it.

That gives you unlimited entries/exits to the country for the validity of the visa (a year from the date it's issued) and each entry gets you stamped in for 90 days

thanks for the advice. One last question are you aware of the earliest I could apply for my next Visa. This one ends 8th January and unfortunately I'm 37ft in the sky heading back to UK and don't get back to Thailand until December due to work commitments

Okay the first question you need to answer as to whether you go get a new year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa from a thai consulate (where you border bounce every 90 days to get a new 90 day stamp) OR whether you would apply for a yearly extension of stay IS

Are you able to meet the financial requirements of 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for your extension OR get a notarized letter from your consulate here in Thailand stating you get 40k baht a month in income from abroad?

I fly back and forward Tod and probably only stay for around the 90 days due to business back home to take care of so the option for me would be the 40k a month but I'm from the UK and they are stopping the letters are they.

you can apply for an Extension of Stay but there is a financial requirement of 400.000 Thb for 2 months on a Thai bank account in your name of 40.000 Thb monthly income.
